Chanel No. 5 is heralded as the world's finest perfume, with good reason. It was the first fragrance released by Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel in 1921 (compounded by a Russian-French chemist). Until that time, women of class wore a single-note floral scent. Coco wanted to embrace the feminism rising at the time by including a few more notes. A key ingredient is the "Rosa Centifolia" (the "May Rose"), still grown exclusively in the fields of Grasse, France. Other components are Jasmine, Ylang-Ylang, Orange Blossom, Dutch Jonquil, Florentine Iris--and Musk, Patchouli, and Vetiver, which give it its heady, sophisticated, sultry quality. What Coco created is a fragrance that has withstood time and trends (in the 1950's, Marilyn Monroe was asked what she wore to bed and said, "Five drops of Chanel No. 5"). It is a magnificent, sophisticated, yet seductive fragrance. My husband goes wild when I wear it, so I save it for special occasions. Drives the husband wild
I own just about everything No. 5. This classy bottle and fragrance are a favorite and it drives my husband wild. Men always comment when I wear this scent. The black cannister is refillable which is very cool and it protects the glass. When you run out of your spray, you remove the bottle and refill with a new bottle.
