Have you heard of the "Lipstick Index"? It's the idea that when the economy is bad, women buy more lipstick as a quick pick-me-up. It's proven true in the last few downturns, but now lipstick sales are down -- and eye makeup sales are up.

This means either a. We're not in a recession (my bank account strongly counters that theory) or b. Women are more into eye makeup than lipstick now.

I know I fit into this trend. I won't leave the house without mascara (and it has to be one of these), but I rarely wear lipstick, usually just lip balm or one of my many glosses. What do you think? Tip: If you use a lash primer (it's a great way to pump up a ho-hum mascara you want to use up), make sure to let it dry for 10 to 30 seconds before putting on mascara, so the color doesn't get diluted -- you don't want gray lashes! Choosing your eye makeup based on your astrological sign might not be the most practical way to do it, but it's pretty fun (and kind of eerie how spot-on it can be sometimes).
