  • Practically every time I talk with a hair stylist I get the same lecture: it's better to wash your hair less often because it keeps it healthier, the natural oils are good for your scalp, etc.

  • No offense to these well-meaning people, but I'm still washing my hair every day (I just use one of these conditioners to combat the dryness). Yeah, I know if I didn't my scalp would eventually produce less oil and my ends wouldn't be as dry as they are now, but I frankly don't want to deal with greasy roots or dry shampoo (although this one might just make me change my mind).

  • How about you? How often do you wash your hair? Are you like any of these TotalBeauty.com readers below?

  • "I don't wash my hair every day, it takes a few [days] before it's noticeable, and I'm pretty lazy. I do as little as I can get away with. If I use any products in my hair, I have to wash it sooner than without. I don't get dandruff or too much oil, my scalp just gets itchy and bothers me." -- DarklyDreaming

  • "I wash my hair every day. Just because I hate the way oily hair or hair with product feels. I let my hair air dry every day, so it's still pretty healthy." -- jewelboxdreams

  • "I wash mine every other day, but it doesn't look as good on the second day unless I've colored my hair recently. I dye my hair, use a blow dryer and straighten it, so I would end up doing more damage if I washed every day." -- Orangekitty

  • "I use to wash my hair every day since I have pretty oily hair. But after a while it started to dry out and now I only wash it every other day. My hair looks a lot healthier than before. I cannot go more than two to three days without washing my hair, it will look gross." -- michellelove

  • "If my hair feels too oily and I don't have time to wash it, I use hairspray on my roots. I find it makes my hair look drier, but I always make sure to wash it out later. Using it too many times in a row without washing will cause buildup that turns into flakes. If I'm really in a crunch I pull my hair back into a tight ponytail and pretend the oil in my hair is gel. I'm convinced I have my coworkers fooled." -- DarklyDreaming

  • • Whether it's once a day or once a week that you shampoo, make sure you're using a quality product, like one of these.
