Think all food is fair game at stores like Whole Foods? Not so much. We'll show you what to watch out for the next time you shop in a health food store
Vegan desserts OK, maybe this one shouldn't be too shocking, but Giancoli says, "a cookie can be vegan, but it's still a cookie." Translation: While that cookie may not have any butter or lard in it, it can still have plenty of fat (via vegetable oil) and sugar. Metsovas does concede that vegan or organic desserts are "technically healthier, since they typically contain fewer refined ingredients." But, she adds, "you'll still put on weight even if it's natural fat and sugar."
My philosophy is, eat all things in moderation . Because some ingredients say all-natural, some people think they are suppose to overdo it, and thats not the case. Whether its white bread or whole wheat, you cant overdo it.
I have celiac disease/ gluten intolerance so I find that it is more difficult to eat healthy. While most foods that fall into the "carbohydrates" contain gluten, you'd think you'd be eating healthier, but no. I find that it's easier to buy the gluten free crackers or cereal or snacks compared to let's say... making a salad. Good article. Great tips!
Solution for sugary drinks? Drink bottled water or tap water. And yes, those salad dressings will reek havoc on your body so watch out for the sugar content!
The whole "health food" thing has totally made our perception of food even worse than it already was. It's become a marketing thing, not a health thing. And even healthy foods aren't so healthy if you eat too much of them.
most cooked canned foods and most sweet foods are not god for you. no surprises in this article. and all the hype with organic/vegan/fat free/sugar free is crazy.
Great. checking for every details on a product you buy in a store is essential not only for you but also for the health of the whole family. Being healthy is important and eating the right kind of foods are vital. there are products who have lots of artificial ingredients inside it, being careful on what you eat will be more essential.
Good tips! I can vouch for the vegan cookie tip. One brand I know of has 250 calories per serving - and there's two servings in the cookie!!! I think what they are using in place of the animal products ups the calorie quotient significantly. On the upside, they do taste good and just one of those things can make you feel full for hours.
Most of these apply to people who are watching their weight with things that have sugar and lots for calories, I thought this was more of an article about stuff in food that isn\'t as good as they say it is.
You KNOW what they say about "assume", don't you? ;) Salads that cost a fortune and are full of hidden fat, "healthy" desserts loaded with fat and calories...thanks for keeping us on our toes!
