10 Plastic Surgery Mistakes No One Talks About

Mistake No. 2: You don't check the doc's creds closely enough

So, you're at your annual pap smear and one idle glance at the wall between your legs reveals your gynecologist now offers Botox injections. Or you're getting your teeth cleaned and there is a Juvederm poster above the sink advising you to "Kiss those laugh lines goodbye." Since when do your gynecologist and dentist care about your wrinkles? What the heck is going on?

Here's a newsflash: Regular docs can perform the same plastic surgeries as certified plastic surgeons. Dr. Leonard Tachmes says that any MD can claim to be a surgeon (and they are in growing numbers due to monetary incentives), but only a surgeon who is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery -- the only plastic surgery board recognized by the American Medical Association -- should be performing these aesthetic procedures.

Important subject but very biased. The dangers involving many aesthetic procedures should be publicized including media targeting teenagers. Plastic Surgery must be performed by Plastic Surgeon. It is very true that many non-surgical MDs call themselves Surgeons only for public consumption. This includes Dermatologists who are not surgeons regardless what they may call themselves. However, what should be done with board certified Plastic Surgeons who create well known monstrosities, whether using scalpel or syringe? One must not confuse certificate and technical skills with talent. Or is it money?

SORRY!! Obviously this is a site for Plastic Surgeons only to inject Botox. There a a lot of Nurses and other doctors that go to the same course that the plastic surgeons! They are qualified and yes they are cheaper! Don't discount the nurse that has preformed a lot of botox, I have had plastic surgeons do my Botox and it has come out awful and then had an RN that did it, she was wonderful. Don't believe everything you read! The invasive procedures like Liposuction, Breast implants yes I definately agree that a qualified plastic surgeon does the job, but please ask how many have they done? Pre and post pictures and if you can call one of their patients. Not all plastic surgeons are good, just like anyone else check there credentials! FYI most nurse's that give Botox Injections keep up on there schooling so they know what they are doing and what the new trends are! Cher

When I was 25 I realized the perfect looking girl, was imperfections she carried and made beautiful. I had a friend who was Eurasian and she was gorgeous. She hated her bump on her nose, which made her absolutely Perfect and she became a super model in Asia. Goes to show we are our own worst critic. went to a week long seminar with my daughter who is a lpn to know how to administer for botox and fillers. she is very very competent and out of all the people there she was hailed as a artist. when we arrived back home patients came to her to "fix what other people had botched", she was at that time the only lpn that had ever been allowed to take the courses. it was orginally for registered nurses only and subsquently she was taken to the board by a registered nurse whose was not hired and my daughter was not allowed to do this. there are not many like my daughter. she was the only one in the area with a certification. the rest of the people in just this area were only given a 1 day course by the botox people. this includes the doctors in this are. i guess that when it was all said and done she is lucky to be out of it. i do think a lot of people are hurt by the fly by night.

Went to a seminar on medical esthetics. Sat next to a gynecologist that thought he could open a med spa next to his practice. Also went to a womens doctors forum and found out that the female physicians felt the cash factor of offering botox etc was a great way to financially boost revenue for their practices. Some had estheticians with them, most did not. I was shocked.

very Interesting !!! i myself have never had surgery except for childbirth. you do get what you pay for , and in many ways that quick fix can sometimes be that Fix youll never fulfill nor correct. Some of these evasive procedures leave you scarred not only physically but emotionally and mentally. im a big fan of peels microdermabrasion eating well and exercise and positive thinking. im afraid to put something foreign in my body... because of adverse reactions and so forth, plus when im 80 what will i look like what if i go broke early and cant afford the inflation of replacement or more injections. My current self always has to think of my future self. id rather see a life coach and get chocolate then to forever change the body i was given, GOD dont make junk.

Too many risks to make plastic surgery even an option. It MIGHT (and this is a big might) be an option for me if I just so happened to grow money in my backyard or suddenly strike it rich. Buuut. Very slippery slope-I met a woman at a party-we started talking about injections-(which I do) and I found out she went to a "MEDSPA" and had her lips injected-Well-then the nightmare began-a nerve was hit by the "Lady" giving the Botox and the mouth sagged on one side-countless surgeries later the problem was only slightly rectified-We must all do our homework when we enter the area surgery and injections.

I think you have to do massive research to find the best plastic surgeon for the part you want done. I think you should "interview" multiple qualified doctors and then choose. I have not had, or will I ever, have plastic surgery, and I think even famous people don't do enough research before undergoing major surgery. Scary!

Cosmetic and Aesthetic surgeries aren't always chosen just for vanity. Many women undergo mastectomies because of cancer, breast reductions because of back problems, and reconstructive surgeries after other cancers, accidents, etcetera. It saddens me to read so many thoughtless and judgmental comments from women who have never been in those positions, and hopefully never will. These are all legitimate issues that women must be aware of, regardless of the reasons different people seek out surgical procedures. And if a women wants to maintain her appearance, so what?!?

At 60 I was looking an old 70 and hated it. I did my homework and found a very experienced plastic surgeon at a large hospital in Bangkok Thailand. He had 13 years of experience, done thousands of procedures and was even rated highly for complex sex change operations. The hospital was clean, efficcient with new equipment. so I went ahead with a lower face and eye lift. Before surgery I became worried that they would do a mix up and I would come out as a 60 year old ladyboy with great breasts and no face lift. Well things went fine, the staff was friendly, spoke English and they had someone from the computer dept. come to my room and help with the wifi set up. The cost was about 25% of the US and 5 years on I'm still very satisified with the results. The food was decent and you could get a massage therapist from the physical therapy department come to your room for a massage for only $6. If I had it to do over(no need) I would request to have from the beauty department, which is attached to plastic surgery dept for lesser procedures, send one or two of the models that work there over to my room to hold my hand and quiet my fears. I didn't think of this till later. That's my story.

There's one they left out. Black Market Plastic surgery. Where people know they're getting procedures done by fake or unlicensed doctors. in order to save on cost. Happens a lot in other countries. and here too. There's also the Absolutely fake doctors, who open up fake clinics and use fraudulent credentials. Not even tried in anyway shape or form to assist a doctor themselves. It seems like these fake doctors are targeting people who want boob or butt implants because it seems simple to them. just stick a bag fill with liquid into a body part. And also lipo. Just stick a suction device in and suck out anything. People are dying because of vanity.

I don't think I'll ever get a plastic surgery but I don't judge people who do, sometimes it could be an important improvement in your life. Beauty is very important to me, but I'm not trying to be perfect and I think there are more important reasons to go under the knife than bigger breasts or slimmer body. Plastic surgeries used to be only for people who had accident or some serious defect that affected their life and health. Now it's an obsession, mostly caused by "perfect" celebrities and pressure put on us to look great. People often forget that any surgery is dangerous, painful and the effect could be unpredictable... and there's always something to improve! We should love ourselves the way we are. Would you advise your friend to get a surgery? Treat yourself like your best friend, we're too harsh on ourselves.

Great article. I needed this 7 years ago when I had my nose done. I had a bad noae job done by that plastic surgeon on the show "The Doctors". Turns out he was from back east ,New York I think and sued for mal pratice. By the time I figured that out I had already had the surgery with my noae collapsed on one side. So all I can say is definitly do ur Research. Don't trust someone just cause their on tv.

As the saying goes: "If I only knew then what I know now!" This ring true for me as I had ance/blemished skin from my mid-teens in to my 30's. I started seeing a Holistic Esthetician around 20ish. She helped me a great deal since then. Now, I've further educated myself by reading books, internet research, and finally became heavily interested in using essential oils/aromatherapy. I remember when we were visiting my mother's birth State, and her friend came over with a scar on her face. Everyone was saying it was a botched plastic surgery. While it may be tempting for people to get lipo as a "quick fix", the best idea is to follow a long-term diet & exercise plan. Another mistake is not realizing that certain surgery is a lifetime investment. A former friend of mine had breast implants at 18. At 19 one erupted in a car accident, and she had to have them redone. She then went too large and one of the implants stretched out the skin, making her nipple large and dragging the breast down. She had to have a breast lift and skin graph to regrow the tissue, and all these by age 23.
