Break This Rule: Brushing 100 strokes a day helps your hair

That image of Marcia Brady brushing her shiny blonde hair seems to have stuck with a lot of us. Sadly, doing the same with our own hair will only cause breakage, says Babaii. Plus, it can activate your oil glands and make your hair greasier, says Philip B. "Proper brushing is essential, because it helps to move the natural conditioning oils from your scalp down to the mid-shaft and ends of your hair," he says. "But a few strokes with a gentle, fine-quality brush is perfect."

I totally agree about brushing vs. combing wet hair!! I've tried using a comb recently on my wet hair because I always hear brushing is bad, and it didn't work on my hair. Maybe it's because my hair is very thin....the comb didn't get through my hair and wouldn't untangle it.

It's true, all this stuff you are told not to do may be wrong. Break the rules and see what happens.

i did follow the rules on 3-4. I did start to condition before I shampoo and I noticed a difference!! But I don't think I will change how I comb my hair. if I comb from the top down on my fine, medium thick hair I will have more tangle rather than less!!! Most of these about breaking rules only apply if you are using non-sulfate products of products specifically for your hair thickness!

This is good! A nice reminder that there are no (or few) hard and fast rules that apply to everyone--we should take advice, but then consider our own hair styles and types! (Including that "a cut should last three months" thing--I wear my hair in a super short pixie and I need it trimmed every four WEEKS to keep my sanity)
