The United States of Tanorexia: Tanning Bed Use Is On The Rise

Doctors worry this could mean a huge spike in melanoma cases

• It's a tandemic! More than a third of all Americans admit to having used a tanning bed at some point in their lives, and a full 13 percent of all adults (and 43 percent of university students) have used one in the past year. The fear is that tanning beds have put hundreds of thousands of people at risk for developing skin cancer; rates of melanoma among young people have risen a steady 3 percent a year since 1993.
