Tavi Doesn't Actually Make Any Money Being Tavi

The Rookie chief lives on her allowance alone!

We have a hard time believing this one, but mini-mogul and Rookie HBIC Tavi Gevinson doesn't actually profit off of her endeavors. Tavi, hard to believe, doesn't take a salary from Rookie, though she employs 80 people to keep the mag going (we're going to assume many of those are occasional contributors and not full-time employees). Instead, she gets a weekly allowance of $25. Otherwise, all of her money -- from speaking engagements or any editorial work she's done (like the campaign she did for Cole Haan) -- goes into a savings fund.

"She doesn't yet earn a salary from Rookie -- though that may change soon, as the site becomes more profitable -- and speaking engagement fees go into her savings." writes Los Angeles Times author Deborah Vankin.

So despite being in movies (she was in Enough Said with Julia Louis-Dreyfus and James Gandolfini last year), running a magazine and appearing in copious fashion editorials, Gevinson is kept mega humble by her parents who keep the money under lock and key. "It's a nice little fiction that we're living out because she has this bank account," says her father, Steve. "But she likes living that way. We like her living that way." [Los Angeles Times]
