Your Next Big Food Obsession: Ramen Burgers

Plus plastic surgery in China, the horror of confiscated beauty products, and more of the top stories of the day

Ramen: Typically the purview of broke college kids and jobless twenty-somethings. But not anymore! World, meet the Ramen Burger, a regular burger enveloped in a fried ramen bun. How does it work? Magic, clearly. Creater Keizo of the ramen restaurant Sun Noodle isn't exactly saying, but it appears to be cooked and then fried noodles. How does it taste? Judging from the hundreds of people that lined up on Saturday to get a taste of it in Brooklyn (where else would such a thing originate), it must be pretty good. The burger is also climbing up the fame ladder and appeared on Good Morning America last week. Would you eat one? [Source]

And now for an innovative foodstuff we would never, ever, in a million years stick in our face holes: Test tube beef, which is being developed in a lab in the Netherlands. Google founder Sergey Brin is bankrolling the faux meat project, with the hopes that the test tube beef will help solve the global food crisis. "There are basically three things that can happen going forward. One is we will all become vegetarian -- I don't think that is really likely," said Brin. "The second is we ignore the issues, and that leads to continued environmental harm. And the third option is we do something new." [Source]

You just dyed your hair fire engine red? That's so ... normal. According to celeb stylist Andy LeCompte and colorist to the stars Jennifer J., pastel hair is here to stay. Ditto on ombre (even though you might think it's passe.) [Source]

Be careful of what you shove in your carry on bag the next time you travel -- too much makeup or face wash and it could be confiscated. Each year, say travel experts, the TSA confiscates more than $24 million in products, and if you don't want to be one of the women crying over your missing La Mer, best get thee to a container store and purchase a bunch of travel-size, TSA-permitted, 3-ounce or less bottles. I know, so annoying, but better a bunch of small plastic bottles than lose out on your hyper-expensive moisturizer, right? [Source]

Well this is sigh-worthy: Chinese women are seeking out plastic surgery to better compete in the job market. Some of the most frenzied clients are "leftover women," women who are over the age of 27 and haven't yet gotten married. And plastic surgery is believed to help women advance in social circles and in their careers. The uptick in mobility among Chinese women has also created a vibrant market for plastic surgery, and it's now a $2.5 billion dollar industry. Are we really surprised? After all, this is a country that proudly hosts "best artificial beauty" pageants. As one woman explained: It's just like applying makeup; everybody wants to enhance their beauty. A woman especially needs to work to maintain her appearance as she gets older." [Source]

We are seriously loving Sephora's Pantone elemental Energy Palette. So many colors, all split into the four elements: earth, wind, fire and water. Plus, it comes in a magnetic case to prevent clumsy people like me from ruining the shadows. [Source]
