Forget Alcatraz, the New MAC Pro Products Store is a Great Reason to Visit San Francisco

The just-opened flagship mixes MAC's professional and consumer lines and the result is makeup heaven

Scooch over Sephora, there's a new makeupgasmic player in town and it's taking San Francisco by storm.

MAC's spanking new, 3,000 square foot flagship store features much more than what you'd find at your typical counter; it also showcases -- and sells -- its lauded line of professional products.

Karen Buglisi Weiler, MAC's global brand president, explained the rationale for this third flagship store (the other two are in NYC and Paris) to WWD.

"The pro products that we have are really for makeup artists. They are designed for the industry and giving pro makeup artists more service, especially in the city of San Francisco, because we have a high level of pro makeup artists there."

And, as James Gager, creative director and SVP says, "The ordinary customer might not be exposed to [how many pros use our brand], so we thought this might be an interesting way to let them know."

Interesting and fun.

The store, in famed Union Square, is divvied into four specific zones. One for new collections (a new one launches roughly every week) and MAC's signature color collection. One for service and makeup application. One for the pro products and one that's devoted exclusively to a lash bar boasting 40 kinds of lashes.

Talk about leaving your heart in San Francisco.
