Bindis Are The Cultural Appropriation Du Jour At Coachella

Plus the banana diet, bad men's hairstyles, and more of the top stories of the day

• Oh geez. First there was the ubiquitous Coachella native headdress. And now the cultural appropriation du jour is apparently the bindi. Vanessa Hudgens, Sarah Hyland, and a slew of other celebs were spotted wearing them at the music festival over the weekend. Why is the bindi bad (to wear to a music festival if you're not an Indian person)? "The bindi on the forehead is an ancient tradition in Hinduism and has religious significance. It is also sometimes referred to as the third eye and the flame, and it is an auspicious religious and spiritual symbol ... It is not meant to be thrown around loosely for seductive effects or as a fashion accessory aiming at mercantile greed." Got it? [The Gloss]
