Skin Alert: Symptoms Of Rosacea

Small red bumps. Red areas of skin on your face. The tendency to flush easily, making you appear as if you have had a few too many glasses of wine. These are all symptoms of rosacea, a skin condition that affects over sixteen million Americans, according to the National Rosacea Society. Many people do not even realize they have rosacea, or they mistake it for another skin condition, such as acne or lupus. Read through this list of symptoms in order to figure out if what you are experiencing is rosacea.

One of the most noticeable symptoms of rosacea is facial flushing and redness resembling a sunburn. This can be triggered by sun exposure or alcohol consumption, which causes your blood vessels to expand, resulting in facial redness. In women, redness is most noticeable on the forehead, cheeks, nose and chin. In men, redness usually occurs on the nose. In some cases, redness has been found to occur on the neck and upper chest as well.

Pimples and red lines on the face, otherwise known as telangiectasia, are also symptoms of rosacea. The red, round pimples that form on the skin are different from the typical acne pimples, which typically consist of whiteheads or blackheads. The red lines on the face are thing and resemble spider webs or varicose veins, and most commonly appear on the cheek.

You may also experience swollen bumps on your nose, which in some cases can be enlarged and bulbous. Eye irritation is another one of the symptoms of rosacea, and include redness, dryness of the eye, tearing, and swelling of the eyelid. You may find that you are having difficulty wearing contact lenses or your vision ma even be blurry.
