Major Causes of Oily Hair
Having trouble keeping the greasies at bay? Read on to find out some of the major causes of oily hair
Excessive use of styling products is one of the major causes of oily hair. When you apply multiple products to your scalp, they start to pile on top of each other, forming a waxy, oily buildup. In order to prevent this buildup from happening, you should reduce the amount of products you apply to your hair at any given time, and try to stay away from oil-based products. If you suffer from dry hair, it is okay to apply oils to the ends of your hair, but keep the product away from your scalp.
Hormones are another one of the major causes of oily hair. If you are a teenager or have just entered menopause, you may be experiencing an increased in androgens, a male hormone. These androgens are responsible for an increase in oil production on your skin and scalp, resulting in acne on your face and body along with oily hair. Doctors will typically prescribe progesterone to control the level of androgens, thus reducing the amount of oil that is produced.
