14 Best Face Scrubs

We tend to stick to the same three skin care basics: cleanser, moisturizer and sun protection (if we remember). Sure, a lot of women do the occasional face mask or splurge on a facial, but there is one super important step many tend to forgo too often: exfoliating.   See face scrubs

Louboutin for Your Nails

Christian Louboutin, he of crimson-soled-shoe fame, announced that he is releasing an eponymous beauty collection. His first foray is a nail polish line. It makes sense, considering it was an assistant's red nail polish that inspired the red soles of his shoes in 1992. The first shade, Rouge, hits stores on August 6, with 30 remaining shades following on August 31. At $50 a pop, these nail polishes aren't cheap -- but considering the faceted crystal bottle is a work of art in itself, the polishes can double as vanity decor. After all, Louboutins weren't meant to be put in a drawer.   read more

Laser Hair Removal for Dark Skin: It Is Possible

BB creams that come in two shades, hair chalk that shows up only on bleached blonde hair -- beauty innovations that work only on certain hair-and-skin combos put a serious damper on the beauty game for about 98 percent of the population. That's why we're shouting from the rooftops that laser hair removal, previously only available to those with light skin and dark hair, is now safe and effective for all skin types -- as long as you get the right treatment. Before you book your appointment to get rid of your hair for (almost) good, take this crash course on the best hair removal treatments for dark skin.   read more

Want to Stay Young Forever? Here's Where You Need to Live

Aging isn't all bad. Things like growing wiser, deepening relationships and developing skills can't be bought -- they can only grow with the gift of time. However, we don't always appreciate all of the gifts time bestows upon us -- namely, wrinkles, sagging skin and hyperpigmentation. These are the signs of time passing we actively try to prevent and avoid. And, it turns out, some cities in America are much, much better than others at doing so.   read more

Summer-Proof Beauty Tips From Bathing Beauties

Mermaids are portrayed as beautiful, siren-like creatures with gorgeous, long locks; glowing skin and perfect makeup that never runs. But in real life, we know Ariel's fire-engine red hair wouldn't stand a chance against the sun and water. Skin without SPF would burn and blister (not to mention, leave some serious clamshell tan lines), and we'd hate to think of the prune-like state our fingers and toes would be in after a lifetime submerged. What's a mermaid to do? We asked the closest thing to it, members of the Aqualillies, a professional synchronized swimming troupe, who can spend a whole day in the water, and still look gorgeous. Here, their best summer hair, makeup and skin care secrets against which chlorine, sun and surf don't stand a chance.   read more

10 Habits That Piss off Your Dermatologist

Admit it: Sometimes you think you know better than your dermatologist. Despite your best intentions, dermatologists say that nine times out of 10 you're engaging in habits that not only make their skin crawl -- they're ruining your skin as well.   read more

How to Defend Against Diet Bullies

Whether it's splitting a pizza over episodes of "The Bachelor," going on late night fro-yo runs after a long day, or nursing a hangover together at your favorite brunch spot, food plays a huge part in our friendships. The Only Way Ever to Apply Your Skin Care Products

What comes first? Forget the chicken and the egg, we're talking about our skin care products, like serum, moisturizer, face oil and sunscreen. A cabinet full of products to keep you blemish-, wrinkle- and sun spot-free means nothing if you don't know in what order to apply them. Instead of slapping them on and crossing our fingers, we conducted a skin care nerd-out session with board certified dermatologists Dendy Engelman, M.D., and Craig Kraffert, M.D., who is also the president of Korean skincare line Amarté. We grilled them to find out which products should be applied first, last and everywhere in between so that they can perform exactly as they're supposed to. Here, these derms school us in the exhaustive process of layering skin care.   read more

Salon & Spa Tipping: You're Probably Doing It All Wrong

It seems simple enough: A standard tip is about 15 to 20 percent of the bill, which isn't too hard to calculate. But over the years, the rules of salon and spa tipping have become complicated. What do you do, for example, when one person washes your hair and someone else cuts it (God forbid a third person does your blowout)? What about facials at medical spas -- since when do you tip a physician? And does the old rule of not tipping the salon owner still stand?   read more
