Vaccine Curbs Killer Strain of HPV in Teens

• A study in "The Journal of Infectious Diseases" reported that vaccinations led to a sharp drop in the number of teen girls infected with the most deadly strain of the human papillomavirus (HPV) -- the STD linked to cervical cancer. The number of girls infected with this strain dropped to 3.6 percent among girls ages 14 to 19 in 2010, down from 7.2 percent in 2006. (Source)   read more

BPA in Plastics Linked to Obesity in Girls

The safety and effects of Bisphenol A (BPA), a compound found in certain plastics used in food containers, made news again this week when a new study published in the journal "PLOS One" found that tween girls (ages 9 to 12) with higher-than-average levels of BPA in their pee were twice as likely to be obese as girls with lower-than-average levels.   read more
