  • Remember in high school and college when there was a "Suggested Summer Reading" list that contained totally non-tedious, uproariously funny and short classics like "The Canterbury Tales" and "The Brothers Karamazov" (please, note sarcasm)? Then, remember when you graduated from the "I-can't-possibly-get-through-this-book-alive" summer reading to numbing your brain with smut paperback crime novels and soppy romance extravaganzas? Yeah, well guess what -- it's time to forget all your summer book "baggage" and move on to reading that's educational AND fun: summer health and beauty reading, of course!

  • We compiled a list of the best recently or about-to-be released beauty books whose 150 some odd pages are totally worth the hype (unlike some of these overly-hyped beauty products) and your time.

  • Your Suggested Summer Beauty Reading List:

  • No. 1: "Style Eyes," by Taylor Chang-Babaian $17.95 (Coming August 2010)

  • Celebrity makeup artist Taylor Chang-Babaian's new book shows how the eyes really are the windows to the soul, elegantly draped in gorgeous hues and smoky eyeliner. This book will help you "understand the composition of the eyes and eyebrows, teach you why you should choose one specific shade over another based on the look you are trying to achieve and the color and shape of your eyebrows, and offer simple step-by-step instructions to achieve professional-quality looks for all ages and occasions," say Chang-Babaian. The easy tutorials of show-stopping makeup looks will have you trying on different makeup personalities every weekend. The "Living Doll" how-to made us go gaga. Check out more of Chang-Babaian's tips in this story about The Best Makeup for Asian Faces.

  • No. 3: "Crazy Busy Beautiful: Beauty Secrets for Getting Gorgeous Fast," by Carmindy Bowyer $12.99 (Released April 2010)

  • Carmindy, the makeup artist from the show What Not To Wear, shares her wealth of beauty knowledge (hundreds of beauty tips learned over years of traveling across the globe as a makeup artist), and shows how even the busiest of women can still look beautiful on a time and money budget. She shares fun and surprising tips like "how to hide a passion mask" -- aka irritation from a makeout session with your man, how to make your own bronzer, and how to properly hide Rosacea with makeup (see how to fix other major hair and skin issues now).

  • No. 4: "Complexion Perfection!: Your Ultimate Guide to Beautiful Skin," by Kate Somerville $27.95 (Released March 2010)

  • Kate Somerville, celebrity facialist, gives a detailed guide to getting to know your skin and how to bring out its natural, healthy tone. Somerville shares things like what to eat, how to treat years of skin damage, and how to fight and prevent acne. If you're a fan of makeovers -- this book is for you. She shows side-by-side photos of dramatic changes you can make to your face using her tips and techniques (see how one of her celebrity fans, Extra! Reporter Dayna Devon uses Somerville's products and other anti-aging secrets in order to look a decade younger in front of the camera).

  • No. 5: "The Water Secret: The Cellular Breakthrough to Look and Feel 10 Years Younger," by Dr. Howard Murad $18.95 (Coming August 2010)

  • Dr. Howard Murad's (of Murad skincare, see his highest rated skin care products here) "crusade" to finding the "secret to optimal health," led him to one very important life-sustaining liquid -- you guessed it: water. In this book he shares "what the fittest people know, that you don't," like how you're supposed to eat your water intake instead of drink it, and gives a detailed three-pronged approach to anti-aging skin care. It's a pretty dense read, but you'll be glad you powered through, as it offers a ton of information on how to stay physically, emotionally and even spiritually healthy, and thus beautiful.
