Beautiful fan-like lashes but with extra effort

I have love and hate for the gladiator "mace-like" wand. You get clumps at the tips if you're not careful to start at the very root of your lashes. If you have Asian almond-shaped eyes (like me) you will find it difficult to get at the lashes in the inner corner of your eye. But other than that, this unconventionally shaped wand does a great job coating each lash and fanning out your ...read morelongest lashes if you're careful and patient with application. The formula has its pros and cons as well. Pros: I was able to do 3 coats with a beautfiful false eye lash effect. The texture is wet and flexible enough to coat each lash for nice separation. The drawback: your lashes droop mid-day! Something about this formula weighs down your lashes. Make sure to curl your lashes before application. After a 4 day trial run using this mascara alone, I began to use my macara primer/base underneath (I use Shiseido's). It definately solved the "lash droop" issue and then I only needed 1 careful coat of this mascara for beautiful feather-like lashes. In a nutshell, this mascara does what it claims but with some extra time and effort. I'm able to achieve the same effect in much less time with my Shisiedo masacara base + Estee Lauder Turbolash mascara, so the L'oreal explosion mascara only gets a 6 due to the labor-intensive application.

    I Had High Hopes

I acquired this mascara as a sample, and had high hopes for it's performance, but I was rather disappointed. I found this to be very clumpy and goopy going on and had difficulty getting rid of the clumps even with my fine-toothed eyelash comb. It also took longer to apply with the smaller applicator surface area than a tradional brush shape. However, I did like the fact that the round tip made ...read moreit easier to coat inner and outer lashes due to it's shape, and It stayed on well and didn't flake. I received this mascara in black but would have preferred brown, as I have fair skin and red hair.

    Doesn't stand out....

My first thought about this mascara was that it seemed that L'Oreal took a good idea from Givenchy. It would be a good idea if it worked as well because a $10 version of a $40 mascara would be really great. Unfortunately it fell very short. There aren't any bristles at the tip of the wand so it made application very awkward. It would help if the packaging helped to remove the excess as well since ...read morea lot tends to build up on the brush. It didn't separate my lashes well either. It isn't the worst mascara I've ever tried but I don't recommend it.

    Mascara Trial

This mascara is okay. I think the applicator is too small and I have pretty big eyes, so it felt weird having such a small applicator to use. The mascara lasted all night when I went to a party and it was easy to remove with eye makeup remover. I like the red packaging because it gives the mascara a trendy look. I would only buy this mascara if the applicator was bigger.

    long, separated lashes

The real innovation with this mascara is the applicator, which took a little bit of time for me to really master. Instead of being long, straight or curved, it's shaped like a sphere. So, it takes a little longer to apply to all of your lashes because you have to do it in sections. But what's awesome is that it does a really good job at separating your lashes and also getting those parts that are ...read morehard to get with a giant wand. Like, it was amazing at getting formula on all of my bottom lashes and the lashes at the corners of my eyes. I don't have a problem with getting mascara all over my eye area when I use this, it goes on exactly where I want it to. I don't know if this would be my everyday mascara since it takes a little while to apply and i'm usually a slap it all on and go kind of girl with my makeup. But this would definitely be great for when you have time to apply it properly, like maybe for nights out, special occasions, etc. I plan on using this when i know i'm going to be photographed and want that extra definition in my eyes.

    small brush :(

The small ball shaped brush makes it difficult to apply and is very time consuming. I'm use to taking one or two swipes of the brush per lash and be done. Also the mascara is clumping on my eyelashes, though it does extend them longer than other mascaras I've used, the clumpage is a total turn off. The creaminess of the mascara is nice because it doesn't feel too heavy on my eyelashes. Also a nice...read more point to the mascara is that it didn't smudge when I rubbed my eyes, nor did it irritate my contacts.

    interesting

Maybe it was the cool brush, but I wanted to like this more than I actually did. At first, the brush seemed extremely stiff, almost painful. The formula is a bit thin, so while it covers everything with the best control ever, you need a couple of coats, and then it has a tend...read moreency to clump a little. Nothing to Write Home About...

At any given time, there are anywhere between 3 - 7 different mascaras in my cosmetic case. Right now, I have tubes of Exceptionnel de Chanel, LashFusion, Maybelline Define-A-Lash, Clinique High Impact, and recently added to my collection: L'Oreal Paris Telescopic Explosion. My initial thought was that this is the drugstore version of Givenchy's Phenomeneyes - which it is. The brush did nothing ...read morefor me that any of my other mascaras cannot do - if anything, it actually took longer to apply... and while the brush neither impressed nor disappointed, the formula was smudge-y. I wore the mascara for something like six hours - and by the end of the night, I resembled a raccoon. My lashes weren't particularly longer, nor more voluminous, than when I use my fave Chanel mascara. My lashes didn't stay as curled as when I use Define-A-Lash, and I definitely didn't receive any of the "protein deposits" that my LashFusion mascara offers. Perhaps when L'Oreal introduces a waterproof formula, it will be better by a bit. But as of now, this mascara is nothing to write home about.

    Small but Powerful!

The tiny brush on this mascara took some getting used to - at first it seemed like each lash felt different - moved somehow - but once that feeling passed, I loved it! I have blonde lashes, and this is one of the few mascaras that really does grab each tiny lash and make it noticeable. Definitely worth a try.

    Love the brush

I have short, fine lashes and am always skeptical of mascaras that make big promises for big lashes. This mascara didn't make my lashes much fuller, since the formula is so slick and creamy, but the brush is amazing. I've always had trouble getting to the corners of my lashes, but with this rounded ball brush, I was astounded to see how well and thoroughly it coats each and every lash. It's muc...read moreh easier to use than the traditional wand style and it really does reach even the hardest to reach lashes. The only drawback to this product for me was the formula - it was too wet and heavy for my lashes, so it weighed them down and took out any curl I had put in. However, on someone who has longer, thicker lashes, I could see how this mascara would be someone's holy grail of mascaras. Bottom line: love the wand, not big on the formula for short, thinner lashes.
