Technique, not product
This is still number one for a reason - and women skilled with a wand know why! So often with women I know personally, the number one reason they are disappointed with this mascara is technique. IF one is even remotely skilled with a mascara wand, this provides ridiculously long, well-coloured lashes. It does NOT, however, particularly thicken or plump lashes. However, if one is not brand-loya...read morel, and is willing to put forth the effort of opening a second tube and applying a second coat, if one tops this mascara with a good volumizer, the effect is nothing short of STUNNING!! An personal tip for nearly false-looking lashes: apply Maybelline Great Lash in Blackest Black, then top with L'Oreal WATERPROOF Voluminous Carbon Black mascara - AMAZING!This review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 2 of 2 people said helpful

good for good lashes, bad for wimpy lashes
I've tried this on and off for years; makeup artists are supposed to love it. I have thin, skimpy, wimpy lashes and it just doesn't work for me as well as mascaras that have more dense brushes. However, I bought it for my daughter (the price is right!) who has long, and thick, but blonde lashes. Excellent lashes!
THIS lives up to its name. Great Lash is a mascara that lives up to its claim... IT defines and seperates lashes and lasts all day without smearing or smudging. No need to reapply in the middle of the day! Not worth much

I just don't get it
I do not understand what all the hype is about this mascara. I have found it to be the worst I have ever used! Not only did it not wash off easily as it claims, but my eyelashes seemed very weighed down and even fell out more than I consider to be normal. Don't believe the hype...
In every survey of beauty products this mascara always comes up as a favorite pick. You also frequently see quotes from makeup artists that this is their #1 choice. Frankly I don't understand why. This is just an okay product with tons of hype and promotion behind it. Keep in mind that magazines make their money from advertisers, and who advertises in beauty and fashion mags?...you guessed it!...c...read moreosmetic manufacturers. Most people believe everything they read in these mags so when they are surveyed they respond based on what they've read. That's why I prefer sites like this where people can write what they really think after they've tried the product. I've tried this mascara and I found it clumped easily and flaked and smudged during the day. The brush makes it hard to get into the corners and get all the tiny lashes there. Great if all you need is to darken your lashes.
If you have great lashes, and just need them darkened, then this mascara is great for you. (Must be why it's called Great Lash, it's for people who have great lashes to begin with.)
