Loreal Palette
I was thrilled to have the opportunity to try this palette, thanks to Total Beauty. I am familiar with different makeup palettes, and generally use Urban Decay's Naked and Naked2 for both daily and dressup looks. The Loreal palette I received was "Nude2"-- these colors flatter tan and olive skin tones, and warmed up nicely on warmer, golden-toned skin. I liked that the shimmers were softer, rather than the glittery look that finish often has. The colors all blend very nicely together, but I have to admit, the palette has very little variation, as the colors all seem to be on a single spectrum of rosy, mauve shades, which make coordinating shades easy, but contrasting and highlighting difficult. The palette's biggest downfall is definitely how monochromatic it was. The texture quality of the shadows was slightly above the normal Loreal drug store-- not quite as dusty as their normal shadows, but definitely requiring a little extra effort to get seamless blending. The brush that was provided was of little use. The amount of each color provided, though, was quite generous. The wearability was above average-- some noticeable creasing at the end of the day and some color fade, but a long-wear primer could help with that. The compact design was very sleek, and had a solid, luxurious feel to it. I got the impression that Loreal was trying to distinguish this product from its regular offerings, and in that, they succeeded. I especially liked that the compact had a clear window through which all colors were visible, as well as four different looks printed on the back. Overall, I was pleased with this palette. It is certainly not a substitute for higher-end palettes like Urban Decay, but is a good way to experiment with a similar product before spending extra money on the more expensive brand. For the number of shadows provided, the price is very reasonable, though greater color variation(while staying in the same coordinated color family) would be a great improvement. Outstanding!!
First and foremost, I am a prestige girl. I haven't touched mass-produced stuff in over a decade because I just didn't like the quality. I firmly believe that good...read more brushes are the biggest secret to a good eyeshadow look. So needless to say, the first second I opened the package, I threw away the little flimsy plastic stick brush that came inside. I swatched the shadows on my arms with my fingers and I was impressed at the pigmentation. Pigmentation is a plus, but I've used so many eyeshadows that have had good pigmentation and just wore awfully on my eyes and creased like crazy because they didn't bind to my primer, so I was still skeptical. I have SUPER oily lids so there is only one primer that I trust to keep my eyeshadow on (Nars Smudgeproof Primer). What I didn't expect was how WONDERFUL the shadows blended on my lid with my brush. I'm not exaggerating that this shadow blended better than several of the more expensive shadows I own. Some of those single, more expensive eyeshadows cost more than the retail value of this ENTIRE palette. So I was happy by the way the colors blended on my eyes. What I also love is how TRUE to color the pigmentation is. Many eyeshadows tend to turn brown or muddy on my eyes, but the rose, mauves, and coppers in this palette stayed those exact colors on my olive skin. Now the real test; see how long the shadows last on my eyes with primer. I would check for creasing, oxidization (color change), and fallout. After several days of testing, I didn't have any of that. My eye makeup looked exactly the same as when I first put it on in the morning. I actually went to the store to check out the other palette, but I didn't get it considering I have several similar colors found in the Nude 1 palette. To remind you of what I had said earlier, many mass-produced makeup brands have come a LONG way to create gorgeous, pigmented products that rival the more expensive prestige makeup. This was a palette that changed my mind and proved me wrong with makeup that out-performed makeup that cost two or three times as much money. Very Nice!
La Palette 1 was the perfect set of colors for me with different shades of browns and a nice selection from soft shimmers and matte finishes. Stayed put all day with minimal creasing. Seriously high quality shadows
I love makeup and I love Total Beauty for letting me try this out! I have such an incredibly wide variety of eyeshadows, but very view palettes of this size, because, well, I'm not a fan of the SIZE and how tricky it is to store them. I've used eyeshadow from this brand once or twice in the past (again, wide variety, so really only once or twice) and I liked them ok. This set? Wow. I don't know wh...read moreat L'Oreal did with their shadows but the improvement is incredible. But I'll come back to that. There is a fantastic variety of shades included in this palette. I have La Palette Nude 1 for fairer skin tones, but some of the shades were a bit too orange for my coloring. But I'm a redhead and extra aware of the fact that orange or anything near it is not my shade. But for every orange-ish shade, there was another shade that I really loved. My favorites were 8, 9, and 10. They seemed the most versatile, to me. But I love that there are both matte and shimmer shades included! My absolute favorite thing about the set? I would put on my makeup around 6:30 or 7 am and 14+ hours later it still looked exactly the same as when I put it on. It was FLAWLESS. Please note that I used it with a shadow primer, but I will also note that I use EVERY brand, even the expensive ones, with a primer and nothing ever looks that amazing after 14+ hours. I am seriously impressed. I usually throw out whatever brush or applicator comes with any set, but I gave this one a chance and I didn't hate it. I didn't love it either. I didn't like how soft the brush was, but I did love how small it was so I only put shadow exactly where I wanted to put it. Except that the shadows are a bit soft so there's some fallout, but that's a problem I have with almost every shadow so I've learned to work around it. I recently was sent this to review and I have to say I'm in LOVE. For a long time I have coveted the Naked palettes from Urban Decay, and I have never ended up buying one because I just couldn't bring myself to... now I don't have to. This palette in stores is less than half the price of Urban Decay and the colors are beautiful. I'm not a fan of the brush it comes with, just doesn't work for me, but the sponge tip is very nice, not flimsy at all and delivers a nice punch of color. One thing I will say is that I found for me, there was not much staying power on it's own. But with a primer the color stays right where it belongs. Absolutely highly pigmented gorgeous shades!
I have absolutely loved using this palette! The shades are absolutely beautiful and the they have great pigment as well. Nude 1 is better than Nude 2....
When I got this, I couldn't stand the smell. It smells similar to chalk. Usually eyeshadow scents are undetectable for me but not this one. I've heard only good things about this palette so I was extremely pleased when I was one of the lucky reviewers to receive this for free from TotalBeauty. I love how silky and buttery these shadows are. Very comparable to Urban Decay Naked palettes but just not as pigmented. Don't expect a lot of color payoff. These blended beautifully and even though when tapping my brush into the product it has a little bit of fallout when I placed it on my eyelid there were no fallout onto my cheeks. Usually I hate drugstore eyeshadow but this is very comparable to some high end eyeshadows I've tried. It was so easy to get that perfect smokey eye look without trying too hard. And the pans contain so much product for the price! I'm very impressed with this palette that I also bought the Nude 2 palette. The Nude 2 palette to my disappointment was not as well implemented like the Nude 1. I was really hoping to like the Nude 2 palette more since the colors appealed to me more because of all the purple and plum shades but all the colors look exactly the same on the lids and some of the colors were really blotchy. There's also not a really good transition shade to blend everything out like the Nude 1 palette. Even though a lot of people didn't like the brush in here I actually enjoyed the small brush side, not the sponge side. I found it useful to highlight my inner color and apply color on my lower lash line. Because the Nude 2 palette didn't live up to my expectations, I had to dock a point from this. Good Palette, great colors!
I was lucky enough to be selected to review this palette for Total Beauty and I am actually quite impressed! I do not own any fancy palettes, only individual single eye shadows, so this is awesome for me to try. This one is fantastic with its selection of colors. I used light colors during the day for work, which are kind of sheer, and they enhance and make my brown eyes pop. I have oily eyelids, and I had to re-apply once at least during my work day (i work 10-11 hour days). It did hold a lot better when I applied primer first though. I am not an expert with the smoky eye, but I did have to go to a birthday dinner, so I followed the instructions on the back of the palette, which has four different easy to follow looks for different occasions, I used the mauve ombre, and it was awesome! Dramatic enough to create a noticeable effect, but not too dramatic for racoon eyes (but if that's a look that you want to achieve, you can totally do it too!). Overall, it holds up fairly well, lovely colors with endless options for looks, a very good price for such a good palette. Very nice!
This is a great palette with every day colors. I have Nude 1. Very beautiful neutral shades. It ranges from a light champagne color to a deep brown. I didn't find the colors chalky and there wasnt't a lot of fall out. I used this without a primer and it stayed put for at least 6 hours. Great bargain find!
These 10 shades of nude are wonderful to have all in one palette. I have hazel eyes and I like the many neutral choices I have to compliment my eye color any day! I like that there are a few instructional guides on the back of the compact that help you learn how to apply the different shades to achieve different looks. The pigment of the eyeshadows is great and long lasting. It sets well with a primer.
