With a demanding work life, and an even more demanding 2-year-old at home, Beth needed a cut and color that would help her look more polished and put-together -- without taking a ton of time. So we called in our team of experts at the Warren-Tricomi salon in Los Angeles, Calif., which includes hairstylists Whitney Olson and Reanna Garcia, colorists Jherra Moreno and Ashleigh Childers, and celebrity makeup artists and co-founders of the Luxe Beauty Team Sarah Uslan and Amy Hollier. Let's see what they did to turn back the clock for Beth.
Our makeover team at the Warren-Tricomi salon in Los Angeles, which includes hairstylists Whitney Olson and Reanna Garcia, colorists Jherra Moreno and Ashleigh Childers, and celebrity makeup artist and co-founder of the Luxe Beauty Team Sarah Uslan, gives busy mother of two, Nisa a much-needed overhaul. They transform her dull, brown, frizzy waves into luxuriously smooth, highlighted curls to give Nisa the wow-factor she deserves with the low-maintenance look she needs.
Our makeover dream team -- celeb stylist Ted Gibson, owner of Ted Gibson Salon in New York City, and celeb makeup artist and Beauty.com spokesperson Tina Turnbow -- will give Jennifer modern hair and gorgeous makeup.
Of all the hair care products in your shower, your shampoo is a nonnegotiable necessity.
We all need a good lather to wash out the grime after a run or after we've employed multiple styling products. But a great shampoo (like the reader-approved hair care products on this list) should not only leave our hair soft, clean and smelling delightful, it should also help cut down post-shower styling time by priming strands for our desired style of the day.
We've heard through the celebrity hairstylist and makeup artist grapevine that before factoring in skin care, Botox, or manicures, it usually takes about three hours for a female nominee or presenter to get ready for the Oscars.
When you think about runway hair and makeup looks, what words come to mind?
Over-the-top? Avant guard? Wacky? Inspirational? Impossible-to-pull-off? Scary?
As a mother of a preschooler and a busy marketing professional, Rachael doesn't have much time left for beautifying herself. This is why her obvious roots and frizzy curls are due for an overhaul, but a maintainable one. That's why we called on our makeover team at the Warren-Tricomi salon in Los Angeles, Calif., which includes hairstylists Whitney Olson and Reanna Garcia, colorists Jherra Moreno and Ashleigh Childers, and celebrity makeup artist and co-founder of the Luxe Beauty Team Amy Hollier. Together they give Rachael sleek curls and a natural, low-maintenance makeup look that packs a subtly sexy punch. See how the transformation went down.
What is it about human nature that makes us want to predict everything?
From the weekly weather forecast to our upcoming astrological year or even the world's demise come 2012 (thanks for that one Mayans) -- we just have to know what's in store for us.
Getting whiffs of "vinegar" or "wet paint" are acceptable when you're making salad dressing or redecorating your house, but when they come out of a hairspray bottle, they can be quite gag inducing.
Award shows like the Golden Globes give all us normal, non-famous people the glorious advantage of spectatorship. We get to sit back in the comfort of our couches, cheese puffs in hand, and mock, obsess-over, scoff at, laugh at, love, or hate the hairstyles, makeup looks and dresses parading down the always fabulous red carpet. What's more fun than that?
Haven't we all heard that sometimes to fix a problem, you just need to throw a little money at it? Well, for most of us gals, this isn't always an option, but for celebrities it's practically how they do (beauty) business.
Our makeover dream team -- creator of me by {me}zhgan cosmetics and American Idol lead makeup artist Mezhgan, stylist Leland Ferrell and colorist Adam Scheib of the Sally Hershberger Salon in Los Angeles -- give mom Kim a dramatically new haircut and gorgeous color.
We all make sacrifices for various reasons, but the biggest one (as most moms will attest to) is the sacrifice made when you decide to bring a new life into the world. With that responsibility comes the giving up of time. Time to go to the gym, time to shower, time to apply lip gloss, time to eat dinner and, of course, time to have your hair color done and hair cut (among many other things). Because of this fact, many new moms end up with inches of obvious roots and so many split ends that cutting off the non-split strands would take less time.
Will a pixie a-la-Michelle Williams make you look chic or chubby? Will a trendy full fringe bring out your features or square off your face? These are important questions you should think about before running to a stylist toting a picture of a celebrity haircut you just have to have. Or worse, before you hastily grab scissors on a slow weekday night and go to town on your poor, defenseless hair. Any stylist will tell you that it's your face shape that determines which haircut will flatter you best.
In a day and age where we are constantly exposed to glossy, (ahem) retouched magazine covers and celebrities who have "look amazing at all times" practically written into their contracts, it's easy to get down on yourself. We're all guilty of spending tons of money searching for beauty products and procedures that are going to magically "fix" what we don't like about ourselves. With that said, we think it's time to start loving ourselves a little more and using beauty products that simply enhance, not mask, our features, shall we?
It's official -- we're obsessed with mascara. If this is surprising to you, let us back up that statement by waxing poetic on all of the reasons why: First, it instantly opens up our eyes. Even when we've been burning the candle at both ends, we still manage to look awake thanks to this fabulous eye makeup we call mascara. Second, it makes us look like we actually have eyelashes -- even those of us who were blessed with blonde (aka invisible) lashes or super fine and stubby ones. Third, it creates an instantly feminine, polished makeup look. Even if it's the only product we take time to apply, it helps us look pulled-together.
