If you want to wear the cobalt trend in a subtle way, this eyeliner pencil is ideal. It's incredibly silky and glides on like liquid liner -- no scribbling back and forth to get the color to show up. It looks cool and modern on the inner rim -- inside your upper lashes, lower, or both.

This pot of super-saturated pigment can be used for just about anything. Use an angled brush to apply it as liner, smudge it on with your finger and it will look like shadow, or use a fan brush to layer it over your mascara. It's seriously waterproof and never creases. Yes, we mean never.

Blue mascara can make the whites of your eyes look whiter -- something to remember when you're tired or dealing with allergies. But most of the time, blue mascara is so subtle you can barely see it. We love this one because it's intensely blue -- there's no mistaking it for black.

If you want a really dramatic blue look, even the most intensely blue mascara isn't going to cut it. Instead, pick up a set of these bright blue false lashes. We're not going to blow smoke and tell you they'll look natural -- but that's not the point, right?

We've been going on and on about cobalt liner and lashes, but these days your look isn't complete until you've got the mani to go with the makeup. When it comes to blue polish, this one has it all: It's shimmery in a chic way, the perfect middle ground between bright blue and navy, and classic enough to wear to the office or a party. It's blue. It's new. It's YSL. Enough said.

Certain shades of blue make my skin crawl. I find powder blue to be especially offensive, and teal blue is a close second. What can I say? Some reactions are visceral. (And my frightening, blue eye makeup-wearing third-grade teacher might have something to do with it.)

But then there's cobalt -- a color so beautiful, it's magnetic. Standing in front of a wall of paint chips at Home Depot, my eyes will gravitate towards this shade every time. Cerulean, azure, lazuline -- whatever you want to call it, I think it's perfection.

Skip ahead to see our favorite cobalt blue makeup.

So when I spotted it on the fall 2012 runways -- first in the form of liquid liner at Anna Sui, then as bold blue lashes at Stella McCartney -- it made me giddy. Soon, makeup artists and aficionados everywhere were proclaiming it a trend, and shortly after that, cobalt blue eye makeup started popping up everywhere.

It may not be the easiest trend to pull off (repeat after me: a little goes a long way), but it's so pretty that it's worth a shot. Here are the products you need.
