What Was NYX Thinking? Too Many of the Same Shades!
I just wrote a previous review about an NYX palette stating how I can't pass a palette by--they call me by name, I swear! Even the most unusual arrangements of colors will get my attention, as I am intent on making them work for me. This is one of the very few NYX products I don't care for. "Winter in Moscow" was so appealing when I saw it online that I snatched it up immediately. The problem?...read more I don't think I've used it more than three or four times. I get the theme--the colors are to emulate a frosty, frozen yet "smoky" look. On paper, it's a great idea. In reality, it doesn't work as it is presented. NYX has well-pigmented, virtually crease-free, long-wearing shadows, but in this palette there seems to be repeat upon repeat. There are twelve fair-size wells of color. Two are nearly identical shimmering taupe shades. There is a fascinating, almost holographic silver/grey/blue which I love, and a white. And then there are four (count 'em) degrees of gleaming greys. They are lovely, but how about adding some other shades? There are two virtual twin matte charcoal shades, followed by a matte chocolate and a deeper charcoal. I was annoyed at this mix, but it gets worse--at the bottom are two HUGE pans of color: Gently glimmering deep charcoal and matte deep charcoal. It was as if NYX was stuck with an overload of greys and decided to throw them into a compact. Yes, you can create some nice looks with these, but I am just frustrated by the waste of color. There is a lovely pink-peach blush and a deeper version with tiny bits of glimmer (completely wearable, a great pop of unexpected color). Out of five lip glosses included, three are in shades of mauve (lucky for me that I like this hue), one is pure gold, and the other is copper. This palette had great potential, but I don't know what NYX was thinking when they put it together. This review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 1 of 1 people said helpful

Good quality
I agree with the previous post that the palette does seem to waste space on extremely similar shades; maybe they were trying to please everybody's skin tone with this set and offer the entire shade selection. THe glosses in the set I don't really care for, they are way too sticky for me. The blushes are beautiful and very pigmented. The shadows themselves can be worn alone or blended together. Way...read more too much black than I'll ever need though. I do reach for this though as the first thing that comes to mind when I go out for evening looks. This review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 2 of 2 people said helpful
