Fall is all about layers, and even more so when it comes to jewelry. This year we're revamping the "arm party" trend -- meaning, wearing a ton of stacked bracelets with different textures and colors -- and opting for a chicer alternative: double leather wrap bracelets.
Mark our words: Turbans are back. You mean you didn't know they were ever a thing? As recently as 2012, they sparked worldwide popularity when the boho trend took over as the style of choice at musical festivals. Then after a two-season slump, the intricately bold turban designs at the Marc by Marc Jacobs show for Spring/Summer 2013 proved the fashion trend is, yet again, the hottest, statement-worthy accessory to try. And if you didn't jump on board earlier this year, no problem -- fashion-forward celebrities, bloggers and other style icons are flaunting turbans as the chicest fall accessory.
Next to dry shampoo and oil-blotting sheets, the clutch is every girl's life saver. No one really wants to lug around a giant tote filled with every just-in-case item when the night calls for mindless bar-hopping and running around town (and we refuse to be the next victim of poshitis). Still, it can be tough to squeeze everything you need for a night out into a bag the size of a postage stamp. Enter the oversized clutch: a happy medium that makes holding onto just those beauty essentials even more convenient -- and stylish. Who ever said fashion wasn't functional?
Of all the colors in the spectrum, white gets hit the hardest when it comes to fashion rules: Don't wear it to a wedding unless you're the bride (then by all means, do); don't wear it if you plan on eating marinara or drinking chianti, and perhaps most famously, don't even think about wearing it after Labor Day.
"Midi" is the new maxi. Midi skirts, midi dresses, midi rings -- the new fashion trend has done away with extremes and found its stylish place at a super chic happy medium. These rings are placed (you guessed it) mid-finger, either between or directly on top of the knuckle. Worn stacked or alone, these rings are the now accessory on runways and red carpets.
Fashion Month always lingers in my mind far past September. The gorgeous gowns, unforgettable makeup, and of course the outrageous and hilarious moments that crop up amongst all the day-to-day action.
Is it just me or has there been a lot of black and white at Paris Fashion Week for spring/summer shows? Balmain brought back classic black and white houndstooth and Anthony Vaccarello had those badass grommet studded pieces. The whole thing has felt very ... European. But back in the real world (because we can't all strut catwalks and party internationally for a career), a bright punch of color can give your black and white separates a fresh new look. A perfectly matched red lip pulls everything together.
We're calling gray, patron color of gym class sweatshirts everywhere, the "it" color of the season -- Apple even announced "Space Gray" as the newest color for the latest version of the iPhone. From moody, almost-black charcoal to misty, barely-there hues, we are smitten with the shades of gray we're seeing everywhere -- from New York Fashion Week to Estee Lauder's eye-popping new metallic collection . Neither black nor white, this hue walks the line between striking and ethereal -- and we love it in every gradation. Called a fashion "palette cleanser" (by fashion people who use such terms), we think it's the perfect hue to transition into fall. So we rounded up 46 of the most striking shades of gray in beauty and fashion -- a bit of eye candy for the upcoming season.
Green is the "it" color for Fall 2013 according to Pantone, the authority on all things color. The color gurus featured three shades of green in their fall color palette (deep lichen green, linden green, and emerald) and selected emerald as "color of the year."
Remember that infamous scene in Devil Wears Prada when Meryl Streep describes the aftermath of cerulean blue hitting the runway? This year's cerulean may be the matte orange lip. Put away your arsenal of reds, tone down your eye makeup, and work this lip we saw all over runways at New York Fashion Week.
Remember those fall trends and high fashion looks you pinned in a frenzy during the last Fashion Week in spring? Well it's finally time to dust off those boards because the wait is finally over, and those looks are finally off the runways and ready to be in your closet.
If you're not a model, socialite, buyer, or designer, New York Fashion Week's runway shows are less about wearing sunglasses indoors and sitting front row, and more about openly gawking, ooh-ing, and ahh-ing at what comes down the catwalk. A runway show is a show after all, and while we can appreciate a quality splurge every now then, we're not exactly planning to fill our online shopping carts or completely restock our closets with these pricey pieces.
