Try a messy knot when you don't have time for a trim
"Go with a messy knot if your hair isn't in great shape. Just put a bit of product in it, like a thickening lotion (try Redken Thickening Lotion 06, $17), then dry it quick and twist it up," says Guido Paulo while backstage at the Alexander Wang show where he was creating a much more avant garde look (it required clay and white pigment) than the one pictured here, which was taken at the Tadashi Shoji show. To add a little glamour to a simple updo, try some hair accessories, or to pull things out of the way, throw on a headband, he adds.

Presentable nails in a pinch
To make your nails or hands look somewhat manicured in a flash, quickly detail your cuticles (push them back with a metal cuticle pusher) and use cuticle oil to massage around the cuticle. This will immediately help your nails look, um, polished, even if they're sans polish. -- Theresa Stanley, OPI guest artist, backstage at the Rebecca Taylor show

Quickly define eyes
When you don't have time to fuss with much makeup, line your upper inner rims with black or brown liner -- this will quickly define your eyes -- how? Well, when you blink, it will transfer to your lower inner rims, but won't ever transfer outside of your eyes (where you don't want your liner). So you'll get subtle definition without fuss. -- Nadine Luke, MAC senior artist, backstage at Timo Weiland

Make a slick look your go-to
A sleek style, like a ponytail or bun, is easy to create in minutes. But controlling frizzies on a slick style isn't always easy. To get a perfect finish every time, use "a boar bristle toothbrush from Whole Foods or any kind of natural foods store you spray your brush with hairspray and then you start cleaning up all of your edges." -- Orlando Pita for Moroccanoil backstage at the Carolina Herrera show

Easily brighten up your look
If you want to change up your look quickly, the easiest way is to add color, but if you normally shy away from colorful hues, experiment by "invest[ing] in a really trustworthy pencil eyeliner in a fun color like amethyst or emerald Line your top and bottom lash line and take a little tiny brush and blend it out, so that it looks like a diffused line, which also translates into a shadow. This will transition you into wearing color without having to commit to a whole palette of pastels," says Sarah Lucero, Stila Pro Artist for Beauty.com backstage at the Whitney Eve show.
