His thick, curly black mane tosses in the wind every time he goes in for the kill. It's a wonder how the helmet fits over that volumous girth that now even has the beauty world's attention. Insurance company Lloyd's of London has announced this morning that Polamalu's iconic hairstyle is being insured for $1 million by mega beauty firm Head & Shoulders. That's right, the American football star's hair is being insured by none other than the brand that brought us flake-free hair.
With Polamalu as the new spokesperson for Head & Shoulders for Men, parent company Procter & Gamble (P&G) wanted to make sure that Polamalu's greatest asset would be protected from any hair incidents that may occur on the football field.
Lloyd's insures other famous celebrity "assets" including Jennifer Lopez's booty and actress America Ferrara's smile. Now they cover Polamalu's 3ft long hair, which he purportedly hasn't cut in over seven years.
P&G said in a statement today: "They've created the first ever insurance policy to protect his iconic mane for the entire NFL season."
Perhaps this insurance policy will keep running backs from yanking on his ponytail in the future like during the infamous '06 game when Kansas City Chiefs' Larry Johnson tackled Polamalu by his hair during an interception return.
Who would've thought the beauty world would garner access to man's sacred football temple? I guess we can assume that the football star will not only be tackling running backs but frizz as well.
North American Head & Shoulders brand manager, April Anslinger said, "Besides having that iconic hair, Troy is a wonderful and genuine person." She referred to the insurance policy as "a brilliant idea, because at the end of the day, we know hair, and we want to protect our [spokesman's] best asset."
