You may have heard of the glass skin trend in K-beauty, which describes skin as smooth and translucent as, you guessed it, glass. It has been a buzzword for some time, but in Korea there's something even bigger. Honey skin is glass skin's more popular sister, but the trend has nothing to do with putting honey on your skin. The goal is to get your skin to look like honey. If you look closely, honey does look shiny and smooth and that's exactly what we want our skin to look like. Unlike glass skin, honey skin's focus is on suppleness and nourishment, much like when you were a baby.
Designer lipstick? $29. Top-of-the-line eyelash curler? $19. Eternal youth in a jar? Evidently, the sky's the limit. While beauty and skin care secrets go from today's obsessions with Botox and sunscreen all the way back to Cleopatra's milk-and-honey baths, maintaining a youthful appearance has always involved smooth, hydrated skin. That said, although the world's most legendary beauties regularly get expensive facials and splurge on high-tech treatments, we bet even they think twice about dropping an entire grand on a palm-sized tub of anti-aging moisturizer. (You read that right; we said "an entire grand.")
Have you ever tried IT Cosmetics? If you haven't, you absolutely should. IT, (short for Innovative Technology) Cosmetics started back in 2008. It was the brainchild of CEO Jamie Kern Lima and her husband. The duo worked with a team of dermatologists to develop the brand, which blurs the line between makeup and skin care and addresses a number of common skin concerns. Sales began to take off after a spot on QVC and now the brand can be found in Ulta and Sephora — the brand's CC cream can be found under foundation best sellers on both sites.
Many of us turn to makeup and skin care to help brighten dull skin, even out skin tone, smooth fine lines and reduce signs of aging. But you may be surprised to know that some beauty products are actually causing the problem. This is especially true if you aren’t using the right products for your skin type. “If you’re using the wrong products, it can lead to dehydrated, dull skin and breakouts, which only make signs of aging more noticeable,” celebrity esthetician Shani Darden says. It's important to find out what products work best for you to ensure skin is smooth, hydrated and even toned, she adds.
The first step in your skin care routine is a no-brainer: cleansing. After all, it's only logical that you should remove all the dirt and impurities sitting on your skin after a long day. But with so many different face cleansers on the market, which one should you pick? Well, the answer depends on you — and your skin. Yes, all cleansers are designed to remove dirt and grime, but more stringent formulas may also strip off moisture and other natural oils that skin needs. Choose a formula that's too rich for your oily or sensitive skin and you could wind up with unwanted breakouts.
We all can be a little careless with our skin care efforts at times, whether it's a (gasp) lack of sun protection, poor lifestyle choices or another rotation around the sun that is starting to show up on your face. You know, in the form of hyperpigmentation (dark spots), uneven texture, breakouts or wrinkles leaving you a little less glowy than usual. Fear not, for there is a solution (that doesn't involve costly trips to the facialist or injecting anything into your face) — a new wave of skin resurfacing treatments (aka exfoliating treatments) that will leave you with soft, smooth, even skin. Using chemical or physical exfoliation, the treatments are available via face masks, moisturizers, serums — and everything in between. And the good news is, they don't require a lofty time commitment. Peek ahead for ten of our favorite skin resurfacing products that will undo summer damage and leave you with clear, glowy skin.
If it always seems like there's another weird phrase that's crept onto the beauty scene, it's because there is. Sometimes it's a different phrase that means virtually the same thing as another, sometimes it's an old phrase that's been catapulted back from the past, and sometimes it's a completely fresh term born out of a new trend, service or ingredient. So you're fully caught up with today's beauty lingo, we're breaking down seven of the most notable beauty buzzwords.
We're just going to come right out and say it: Sometimes, we don't like sheet masks. Because as awesome as they are, they can be kind of a pain sometimes. Sure, they're convenient, easy-to-use and deliver instant results — but still. They can drip, slip and slide around your face, leave behind a tacky residue...which means sometimes we find ourselves skipping out on sheet masks.
Now that fall is here, it's a good time to start thinking about tweaking your skin care regimen, as cold, drier air usually calls for lots of moisture and a little less exfoliation. If you aren't sure about which crucial steps of your routine you should actually ditch or keep, we asked experts to share some helpful skin care dos and don'ts to consider before winter arrives. Here are 9 fall skin care tips and tricks you'll definitely want to keep in mind.
Consider yourself a fan of natural beauty products? Indeed, nature often knows best when it comes to beautiful and radiant skin. But in contrast to well-loved ingredients like aloe vera, moringa and cupuacu butter, there is one plant that you probably didn't expect to see in a skin care product: bamboo.
Korean beauty is everywhere you look these days: It's on the shelves of every store from Saks Fifth Avenue to CVS and it even made an appearance on the red carpet at the Emmys. One of our favorite K-beauty brands of the moment? Innisfree, which made its way to the U.S. market earlier this year with a new e-commerce site, as well as a couple brick and mortar locations in New York and New Jersey.
Let's face it, scent is one of the major motivators when it comes to purchasing beauty products. If something is aesthetically pleasing or smells good, we're more likely to want to buy it. Lately, we've been seeing scent trends in beauty from watermelon and coconut to classics like lavender. Rose-scented beauty products have been around forever and are also having a moment right now. What was once thought of as a cloying, grandma-esque scent is no longer. By pairing the timeless floral fragrance with other scents, it creates new and exciting varieties that are younger and more fun. Rose itself is chock-full of antiseptic, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, so it's great for acne- and redness-prone skin. If you love the floral fragrance, read ahead for some of our favorite rose-scented beauty products.
The internet is a wonderful place that's full of information about the things we love — but we don't think we need to remind you how much stuff on there is just plain wrong. Take beauty hacks, for instance. The internet's a veritable treasure trove of, shall we say, questionable beauty tips.
We've already seen buzzy skin care ingredients like CBD, crystals and turmeric take center stage this year, but as the fall weather comes rolling in, you may be curious about what other trendy (and effective) ingredients are worth keeping on your radar.
Hang around the SkincareAddiction subreddit long enough, and certain ingredients are going to catch your attention. Niacinamide is one such ingredient, seemingly getting namechecked in every other thread. So what's the deal with it? What makes it such as superstar?

With fall, you can expect cooler temps, shorter days and pumpkin and apple everything. The drop in humidity and cozy seasonal scents are much needed after months spent baking in the sun. Chances are, your skin took a beating during the summer but that doesn't mean it's in the clear come autumn. Fall comes with its own unique set of skin issues. Here, top beauty experts tell us how to deal with the most common fall skin care problems.
There are always so many exciting new skin care products coming out, from jelly masks and beauty packs to pimple patches and zit sticks. Yet for those of us with sensitive skin, trying new products always comes with the risk of a breakout or irritation. Caring for sensitive skin includes finding the right balance: it should be tough enough to address your skin issues, yet gentle enough to avoid an adverse reaction.
How good are you at remembering to wear sunscreen? Turns out, there might be another wavelength of light you should be concerned about. "Consumers mostly know only about UVA and UVB light, but HEV (blue light) also exists," says Dr. Sameer Bashey, a board-certified dermatologist at the ZO Skin Centre. "This light comes from the sun but can also be emitted from phones, tablets and computer screens."
