The skin on your lips is different from the skin on the rest of your body: It's way thinner and it has no oil glands that acts as a natural barrier and protection — which is why your lips are more prone to dehydration and cracking.
So, in addition to keeping yourself hydrated and not licking your lips (a big no-no!), here's a lip care routine you should follow to keep your lips comfy and moisturized.

Pre-lipstick prep
Even before you apply your favorite lipstick, ensure that your pout is smooth. Use a gentle exfoliant such as Tarte Pout Prep Lip Exfoliant, $16, to buff away dead skin; preventing future chapping, while also helping your lipstick stay on longer.
Don't shy away from using your lip balm (we've been loving Clinique Superbalm Lip Treatment, $17, lately). Apply it five minutes before your lipstick and anytime during the day when your lips feel dry. It will not only repair your distressed lips, but it will also give it a moisturized and healthy look.
For softer and smoother lips, regular exfoliation is key. Just gently massage a lip scrub (such as Burt's Bees Conditioning Lip Scrub, $8.99), on the top and bottom lips in circular motion. Limit exfoliation to twice a week, since the skin on your lips is delicate.
