The Look: Edgy Eyeliner
Revlon artistic director Gucci Westman used three different eyeliners (a liquid, a gel, and a pencil) to give the models at Rag & Bone an "edgy but effortless" look. Then, she dabbed on some highlighter to brighten up the skin -- that was basically it.

The Real Way
From the kohl-rimmed eyes to the natural-looking skin and lips, this woman's makeup is seriously stunning -- and Rag & Bone-esque. Even her hair is somewhat like what we saw at the show. It isn't overly blown-out and the center part gives it the downtown feel that Rag & Bone is all about.

The Look: Black Eyeliner and Red Lips
The dramatic, modern geisha look that MAC makeup artist Kabuki created at Zac Posen made us want to play dress-up more than just about anything else we saw at New York Fashion Week. Unfortunately, this makeup -- especially the combination of pink shadow and red lipstick -- should probably be left to the professionals.

The Real Way
This woman's makeup has the same feel as the Zac Posen show without crossing the Halloween-costume line. Even though most makeup artists will tell you to focus on just one feature (eyes or lips), the sleekness of the eyeliner works well with the bold lip color.

The Look: Warrior Ponytail
We spotted long, sleek ponytails at quite a few shows this season, but the ones at Jason Wu had the best name: "the warrior ponytail." Lead stylist Odile Gilbert wanted them to resemble actual horsetails swaying down the runway. And she wrapped the elastic in bondage tape to give it a "stronger" appearance.

Even though Fashion Week showcases a season that's more than six months away (everything we saw this month is for fall 2012), it's seriously tempting to try the hairstyles and makeup looks now. And so many of the women we spotted on the street -- whether they were going to the shows or not -- were doing just that. From bold lip colors to big hairstyles, they were test-driving the trends mere minutes after they appeared on the catwalk.

It made us think way back to Alexander Wang's spring 2010 collection -- aka the most blatant example of a runway beauty look immediately making a cameo in real life. The models paraded down the catwalk wearing long, rope-like side braids, and the very next day half the women at Fashion Week were wearing their hair the same way.

Check out how real women are wearing the hottest hairstyles and makeup trends.

While most of what we saw this season wasn't quite so obvious, we appreciate the way these women interpreted the hair and makeup even more. Instead of copying everything exactly -- and risk being mistaken for models who got lost looking for the backstage entrance -- they gave it their own unique spins. So even though the street beauty looks aren't exact replicas of the runway, we think they're even more inspiring -- and a whole lot easier to wear.
