Wave How-To
Step 1: Wash hair with a shampoo and conditioner designed to prevent frizz.
Step 2: Spritz damp roots with volumizer -- directly on the roots.
Step 3: Blow dry hair with your boar bristle brush, focusing the heat on the roots to build volume.
Step 4: Once hair is completely dry, curl hair section by section. Twist each section around the iron, leaving the ends out for a more casual finish. Hold the hair on the iron for a few seconds and release. Repeat on your entire head.
Step 5: Brush out your waves until you reach your desired texture and finish with hairspray.

Bonus Tip: No time to style? If you have naturally wavy hair and are strapped for time, apply a curl-enhancing, smoothing cream like Sebastian Professional Whipped Creme, $17.99 to damp hair and let it air dry for sleek waves.

High Pony
As seen on: Kate Beckinsale and Kourtney Kardashian
Works best for: Medium to long hair, all textures

A high pony with texture on the top like Beckinsale's "looks so chic and sexy," says Josh. Kardashian ups the sex appeal of a high pony by keeping the hair tightly slicked back. Both ponies, loose or tight, are perfect for keeping hair off your face and neck, which will keep you cool all summer long. Josh digs this look because "anyone that can pull their hair up into a ponytail can pull it off," which makes it a very easy style.

Summer High Pony How-To
Step 1: Apply a light hold gel through dry hair to calm flyaways and create a sleek finish.
Step 2: Brush hair back into a tight, sleek, high pony and secure with an elastic.
Step 3: Wrap the ribbon or strip of leather around the elastic to hide it and tie in a knot under your pony. Step 4: Tease the tail of your pony to give it body, then spritz with hairspray.

Bonus Tip: If you want to give your pony some instant volume, Josh recommends using Goody Simple Styles Pony Pouf, $6.49 to add oomph to your tail.

Sleek 'Lob' (Long Bob)
As seen on: Gwyneth Paltrow and Naomi Watts
Works best for: Short (or longer lengths willing to go shorter), straight hair

The bob for this season is long, like summer days. Josh loves "the simplicity of this look" on stars like Paltrow and Watts because it frames their faces so well. For ladies with stick straight hair, this sexy and chic style can instantly add drama to, and depth to flat, lifeless locks. It does require some smoothing products to keep frizz at bay though -- especially on humid days.

Billie Holiday once sang "summertime and doing your hair ain't easy. Temperatures are jumpin' and the frizz is high." OK, OK so those aren't exactly the lyrics to her classic hit, but they are most likely the blues you'll be singing come June. It's hot, it's humid, and your hair needs some sexy summer stylin' for all those BBQs and beach bashes you plan on attending.

During the lazy days of summer your hairstyle should look sexy with minimal effort, but because we all know summer hasn't been lazy since high school, it is going to take a little bit of styling to prevent frizz and create hairstyles that keep you looking sexy day and night. Your best bet to beat the heat is to play up your natural hair texture with trendy hairstyles that work with your hair's natural texture.

To get the lowdown on the sexiest hairstyles for your hair this summer, we gabbed with celebrity hairstylist and International Creative Consultant for John Frieda, Harry Josh, who gave us all the details on what three celebrity hairstyles he finds sexiest and how you can perfect them just in time for the sun's favorite season.

See how Josh's A-list clientele (including Sarah Jessica Parker, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Kate Beckinsale) look in these 'dos and get step-by-step instructions on how you can pull them off as well. But before you get all fired up with these hot hairstyles, it is important to know that the head and scalp absorb more UV rays than any other part of the body -- it's true! So to safe guard your hair from damage, Josh says to prep hair with a protective product before styling. Try one of these reader faves:

Frizz-Ease Thermal Protection Serum, $9.99
L'Oreal Paris EverPure UV Protect Spray, $8.99
Tela Beauty Organics Gaurdian SPF 18, $32
Rene Furterer Protective Summer Oil, $23
