Why: Instead of helping readers' eye areas, some say this gave them "more puffiness! I wanted to look YOUNGER, not more TIRED," one reader says. Another complaint was "that it ran out very fast, in 1 month, and my eye cream usually lasts a lot longer," one reader says.

TotalBeauty.com average reader rating: 5.2*
Why: Readers expected more from this serum. "This serum sinks into skin quickly and creates a good base for moisturizer, however it doesn't seem to really do anything other than moisturize. After three months of use I noticed no brightening (except for the boost of moisturized skin) and the slight age spots I hoped would fade remained the same," one reader says. Other readers complained of worse results: "after about 1/2 a week I started to get a splotchy, red, rash-like patch on my face" and "it makes your pores look like craters and in the morning your face has a ruddy look to it," readers say.

TotalBeauty.com average reader rating: 4.9*
Why: Most readers did not like how this looked and felt at all. "I didn't like the way it would flake and ball up," one reader says. And another adds, "It made my eyes look more tired than usual and it seemed to dry out the skin around the eyes making the lines more evident ... plus if you perspire it cakes and clumps on the skin."

TotalBeauty.com average reader rating: 4.5*
Why: Most readers aren't sure if this works or not because they can't get past the smell. "Seriously it smells like a skunk just sprayed my face," one reader says. And others agree, saying, "I held my nose and tried this serum for several weeks. Not worth it! No visible effect on my skin, just an attack on my nose."

TotalBeauty.com average reader rating: 3.4*
Why: Not only do readers say this has "a bad smell," but it also "did not improve my hyperpigmentation at all." One reader explains: "I consistently used this product twice a day as suggested for about half a year. Two bottles later, this gel did not reduce a lick of hyperpigmentation or discoloration. I have not one positive thing to say about this product, and it is not helped by the fact that it is pricey. Overall, the amount of hydroquinone (2 percent) in this is far too weak to yield results."
