"Touches of color will be big for fall," says Freedman. "I love putting a deep blue or plum liner right at the lashline. If you choose a subtle enough shade it won't read immediately as a color. It will add definition that, with closer inspection, surprises with an uncommon cast of color," he gushes. Celeb fan? "I've used this pencil on Camilla Bell," he says.

"Since deeper lips are going to be huge for fall, sheerer eyes will be in order," says Freedman. "To balance the lip, lashes will take center stage. Curl and apply layers of deep black mascara to add crispness and definition," he says. "And who have you used this on?" one of us asks shyly. "Brittany Snow." Ahhh

"This is perfect for the gals that want to make their cheekbones look higher by applying darker blush underneath," says Freedman. How do you pull that off? "This is a tough trick to master for the novice," he says, and it's never a good look in the daytime. "I would suggest using the pinky/rose color for day and in the evening, sweep the bronzy tone underneath. The deeper shade is fail-safe. A fleshy, bronzy shade that's non-shimmery is universally flattering and gives the feeling of contouring. But it's not so intense that it will look like stripes," he says.

"Navy blue, slate, and warm gold shimmer are all in one compact," he says as he points out the shades. "Again, mixing the warm and cool tones will be huge for fall. I think next year we'll start to really embrace a more matte finish eye make-up, but for now shimmer will be an important bridge to make subtly colored shadows wearable," says Freedman.

Back to lips: "I love using plum on lips. This fat pencil gives the pigment of a lipstick, but goes on almost like a lip glaze. Such a great, modern finish," says Freedman. "It's best for gals with medium to full lips since it doesn't stay in a sharp enough point to really sculpt and define thin lips," he says.

Hey, guess what we did two days ago. We hung out with a top celebrity makeup artist. At the drugstore. That's right, we had him personally pick out the best products for us (and you). Cue happy dance.

Skip to see a celebrity makeup artist's top 10 drugstore picks for fall.

In a moment of bravery we (half jokingly) called A-list celebrity makeup artist Brett Freedman last week and asked him to accompany us on a drugstore scavenger hunt for the best makeup for fall. Right when we thought he would let out a belly laugh in our (poor) naive faces -- after all, what celebrity makeup artist uses drugstore products -- he accepted. Enthusiastically.

Despite access to whatever makeup he wants, Freedman says he is a "huge fan of drugstore finds" and even, get this, uses his favorite drugstore makeup on his star clients like Eva Mendes, Emily Blunt, and Brittany Snow.

All we had to do next was kidnap the oh-so-willing Freedman and drag him to our nearby CVS, or what we like to refer to as The Almighty Mecca for Budget Makeup. See the wallet-friendly products and shades this top celebrity makeup artist tossed in our basket. Then run to your local drugstore to pick 'em up and start playing with the season's hottest makeup trends on the cheap.
