Shoes are to fashionistas what mascara is to beauty junkies.

Just like style gurus can wax poetic on the latest Jimmy Choos, product lovers can easily name drop the best waterproof formulas. Both are accessories that go in the I-can-never-have-too-many category -- no matter how overflowing our cabinets or closets.

Skip ahead to see the best new mascaras.

Thankfully, unlike six-inch heels, everyone can pull off mascara. Applying it is a no-brainer (swipe and go, duh). Plus, no matter what your style, we all want the same effect: Long, thick lashes.

Beauty brands know how to keep our addiction going strong. It seems every month there are better clump-free formulas and futuristic wand designs, and 2013 is no exception. Dozens of new mascaras have hit store shelves recently.

We're willing to bet that even if you have a hoarder's amount of mascara in your bag, you'd still happily take suggestions for a few new ones. Heck, you even have a built-in excuse for splurging: mascara expiration dates are around 3 to 4 months. So whether you're refreshing your stash or actually need a new mascara, keep reading to see our eye-opening guide to the best new mascaras.

I think buildability is a very important characteristic in a mascara. One coat gives you definition, but you can layer five-plus coats for volume and drama -- and it won't get too clumpy. My lashes are long but sparse so volume is really important to me, and this one gets the job done -- Dawn Davis, New York City Editor

NYC Big Bold Curl Mascara, $4.99
This is my new favorite. Not only does it make my lashes look super long, but the curved wand also helps curl my lashes with just two strokes. I completely ditched my lash curler thanks to this mascara. -- Emily Popp, Associate Editor

Khroma The Quickie Mascara, $19.99 for quartet
I really didn't want to love this mascara, but I instantly did. It has everything you want in a formula: it curls, lengthens, and volumizes in that epic, big night out kind of way. Plus, it lasts all day without smudges or flakes. Trust me, I am a little embarrassed to be praising this line, but the fact remains: The Kardashians know how to get wow-worthy lashes. -- Cinya Burton, Senior Associate Editor

Khroma Beauty Whip Lash Health Mascara, $19.99 for quartet This is a great everyday mascara. You get plenty of length and volume, plus it allegedly improves "lash health." But what I really love is the brush, which has longer bristles on one side that give you a comb-like effect, perfect for knocking out any clumps and adding extra length to your outer lashes. -- Sarah Carrillo, Senior Editor

This mascara did a good job of covering my lashes from root to tip, but what I liked most is that it didn't clump (pretty much the main thing I look for in a mascara!). It didn't separate my lashes as much as I would like, but overall it is a great every day option. -- Emily Popp, Associate Editor
