Get the Look: Selena Gomez's Sleek VMA Hair

John Frieda's Lona Vigi was responsible for the young star's beautiful 'do

Miley Cyrus' completely inappropriate "LOOK AT ME" twerk and jerk performance may be the (tacky) talk of last night's MTV Video Music Awards, but we'd like to yank the spotlight away from such miscreant behavior and shine it on someone who has long been a positive role model for young girls and has developed into a full-blown classy act -- Selena Gomez.

Gomez, 21, the former Disney star who very well could have gone down the tarted up/dumbed down path like so many young stars before her, has happily remained grounded and focused and remarkably proper in both her professional choices and demeanor. Oh, and, did we mention that she also happens to be gorgeous?

Taylor Swift's bestie hands down wowed on the red carpet last night in a Versace gown that was at once a tad risqué yet sensationally chic and age-appropriate. Her makeup was perfect -- not too over the top (*cough* KatyPerry) -- and her hair was sleek, glossy and a look we're going to be drooling over for a while.

To find out how she nailed the lustrous look, we quizzed Lona Vigi -- one of John Frieda's top stylists. Here's the method she followed that worked so wonderfully on the starlet.

Step 1. Vigi made a cocktail of John Frieda Frizz-Ease Hair Serum Original Formula, $9.99, with Straight Fixation Smoothing Crème, $6.99, and applied it to Gomez's wet hair. This imparted a silky smooth straight look that not only kept frizz at bay throughout the long night, but also helped to impart a shine that lasted.

Step 2. Vigi blew Gomez's long hair out straight to act as a foundation for the sleek style she sought to create. She recommends flipping hair over and concentrating on drying from the roots to help prevent the style from falling and becoming too flat.

Step. 3. Once completely dry, Vigi sectioned off Gomez's entire head and dried them using a round boar's hair brush.

Step 4. When the hair was dry and styled, Vigi applied John Frieda's Frizz-Ease Secret Weapon Flawless Finishing Crème, $6.99, to ensure the style remained shiny, sleek and silky.

Bonus pro tip: Bothered by flyaway strands at your hairline after a blow out? Spray hairspray onto a toothbrush and gently smooth them down. They'll stay put all day/night and prevent you from developing that "halo of hair" that can sometimes accompany an otherwise smooth look.
