I'm not the most likely candidate for mink eyelash extensions. My Instagram feed contains about four times as many photos of my dog than of human beings. I can't eat bacon without feeling genuine shame, especially since I started watching teacup pig videos on YouTube. And I've never worn a fur coat -- in fact, I once lived a stone's throw outside a city that banned them.
As unicorn everything continues to reign supreme -- from unicorn-inspired frappuccinos to unicorn-inspired eyeshadow palettes -- it's officially time to give holographic unicorn nails a try. The term has many interpretations -- but all are equally fabulous (and some aren't even too difficult to pull off). After all, who out there doesn't love fairy-tale-level holographic nails? When it comes right down to it, if it's good enough for a unicorn, it's good enough for us.
Soap was probably the first beauty item you were ever introduced to. But what defines the soap of the new millennium? Considering its humble beginnings in the Roman bathhouses of 312 B.C. — when soap was made out of goat's tallow, wood ashes and salt — we've come a long way. Now we've got bars that massage, exfoliate, soothe, moisturize and make you smell heavenly (aka, nothing like wood ashes).
Showers: If you're anything like us, you've developed a love/hate relationship with them over the years. Yes, they're totally essential to our hygiene and cleanliness (though sometimes our addiction to dry shampoo pushes some serious boundaries), yet all too often, what should be a slow and luxurious routine turns into a race against the clock. Convenience repeatedly overtakes indulgence. As we scramble to deep condition our strands, exfoliate our skin, and — if we must — shave our legs, it's easy to forget to enjoy the little things that can relax us before that frustrating 9am meeting or after an overly aggressive barre class.
Sleep and hydration are the two basic tenets of beauty. It's annoying, but true: Press almost any beauty guru for the secret behind her glowing skin and bright eyes, and drinking water and getting enough sleep will inevitably make the cut.
