Everything You Need to Know About Real Techniques' Sponges

Are Real Techniques sponges really cheaper dupes for the Beautyblender?

Can the Real Techniques sponge do the same job as the popular Beautyblender? The Beautyblender has changed how many people apply their makeup. Its ability to create a perfect canvas and improve just about any foundation has made it a go-to for applying everything from concealer to blush. The Real Techniques beauty blender costs just a fraction of the Beautyblender price, but does it really work as well as the original? Keep reading to find out.

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge
Everything that you love about the Beautyblender can be done by the Real Techniques sponges. The Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge, $6, unlike many other failed attempts to replicate the Beautyblender, is soft and spongy, and it applies makeup evenly and without lines or blotchiness.

Just like with the Beautyblender, you wet the sponge and use dabbing or bouncing motions to apply your foundation. The flat edge and the pointed tip also make it a great option for applying other face products like concealer, blush and bronzer. Washing it is as simple as with the Beautyblender, which just involves soaking it in a mixture of water and soap or cleaner and then rinsing and squeezing it until water runs clear.

Quite frankly, the only real differences between the Beautyblender and the Real Techniques sponge are the color and the price.

Real Techniques Miracle Sculpting Sponge
Another less popular but still great sponge is the Real Techniques Miracle Sculpting Sponge, $6. This one features all the things you love, but it's shaped to help you apply highlighter and contour, which the Miracle Complexion Sponge isn't the best choice for.

A small pointed side allows you to precisely place highlighter or to contour your nose while a larger, rounded side is great for applying bronzer or contouring your cheekbones. The large, flat side is a good choice for applying bronzer or contouring larger areas, such as your temples or your chin.

Thanks to the sponge's texture, it's easy to blend out products so that you look like you've got naturally high cheekbones and a glowing complexion. The sponge can also handle a variety of products, including creams, liquids and powders.

Even if you're in the habit of applying highlighter or contour with a brush, going over everything with the sponge using dabbing motions will help to ensure that your makeup is blended well and looks natural.

Mini Eraser Sponges
If you're in love with the teeny tiny Beautyblender, there are affordable Real Techniques sponges that are dupes of those as well. The Real Techniques Mini Eraser Sponges, $6, are mini-me versions of the Miracle Complexion Sponge, and they are designed to work in small areas that the full-sized sponge doesn't work as well in, such as around your nose.

They are also able to work well under your eyes, so they make a great option for applying and blending in concealer. These sponges are made of the same squishy and bouncy material as the original, and they provide the same types of results.
