NYX Highlight & Contour Pro Palette
NYX Highlights
Highlights are placed on areas of the face where you might want light to hit and accentuate, such as the tops of your cheekbones, above your brows, or your cupid's bow.
This NYX contour palette features four lighter pigments. The lightest of them all is an off-white color. This would be perfect for a very dramatic highlight that really draws attention to your features.
The next lightest shade is less noticeable and more suitable for a highlight that looks natural. This pigment might be a similar tone to someone whose skin is very fair. It is slightly peachy in color.
You may notice that the next shade looks much more yellow in comparison to the others. Not only can this pigment function as a highlight, but it is also useful in canceling out the dark circles that appear under your eyes. After concealing the circles, layering your regular foundation and some powder over the top of the NYX contour shade will help your complexion look fresh-faced and rested.
The last of the lighter shades in the top row of this NYX contour palette can function as a highlight for those with deeper skin tones or as a nice transition color to help blend out your contour.
NYX Contour Shades
Just as it features four highlights, this kit also has four of NYX's contour shades.
The first is a matte soft brown with very slight red undertones. This provides a warmer contour. The second shade in this NYX contour kit is a neutral toffee color. As it sits side-by-side with the first warmer pigment, it is noticeable that this shade is cooler in comparison. This color is perfect for an everyday contour that, when blended out, will look quite natural on most complexions.
The third shade is a light brown with slightly pink undertones. If you have very fair skin, this will be the best shade for you. The last of the four provided NYX contour pigments is a deep brown color. This shade is perfect for if you have a deeper skin tone or are going for a more dramatic contour. It's important to note that all of these pigments can be built upon.
Quality
The quality of these NYX contour shades is vouched for in the majority of their reviews.
"Not too much fall out when swiped with a brush. No caking or product buildup. Doesn't accentuate pores. A+ in my book."
According to this review on ULTA, this NYX kit even stands up to higher-end products: "I have several prestige brand contour/highlight palettes, but I continue to reach for this NYX palette."
The biggest complaint regarding this NYX contour kit seems to be that the shades are too pigmented for some. "The contour shades are extremely pigmented, which is a good thing, but also a bad thing cause it can be a little hard to blend out."
Regardless, reviewers seem to agree that this NYX contour kit is a great starter palette for beginners.
