Miley Cyrus Is Sick to Death of Her Short Hair (Been There!)

The singing actress is doing everything she can to encourage her hair to grow

It's been a year since Miley Cyrus surprised everyone by having Chris McMillan (Jennifer Aniston's go-to hair guru) cut her signature long hair into a sexy, bold pixie. Back then, she told anyone who would listen about how empowering her new style was and how much she loved it. Back then, she made no secret of the fact that her long hair was mostly extensions anyway and claimed that it was empowering to lop it all off.

Now? Not so much. As she recently explained to her close friend Kelly Osborne on E!'s "Fashion Police," "I'm secretly tugging on it every night and taking Viviscal" (a "naturally based dietary supplement that has been specifically designed to promote hair growth").

Clearly Cyrus has changed her tune since February when she vowed to maintain the cropped look for her on again/off again fiancé, Liam Hemsworth -- whom she said "loves" her short 'do. She also praised the cut saying that, "It's so much easier to go shave the sides once a week rather than getting your roots done when you have long hair. I feel like when you have short hair, the messier it is, the better it looks."

To those of us who've been there, that comment screams rationalization! and seems to indicate a condition I've identified as "Pixie remorse." Three times in the last 15 years I've cut my usually long, wavy hair all off -- and it typically takes about three weeks till I'm totally over it and kicking myself for having done it -- again.

Short hair may seem like it's easier to manage and maintain, but it's not. You can't just yank it back into a ponytail when you've overslept, you have to style it. You can't throw on a baseball cap without looking like you're bald beneath, you can't braid it or curl it or try any fun trends with it. It's very limiting and (Viviscal or no Viviscal) takes a really long time to grow back. Plus, Hemsworth may love it, but if you're the kind of girl who care what guys think, most are happy to tell you that they really don't dig chicks with super short hair -- it's hard to run your fingers through something that's not there.

So, while I have very little in common with Smiley Miley, to this, this desire to push your belly button and have your hair grow to Rapunzel proportions, I can certainly relate.
