As a beauty writer, my friends and family members are always asking me for foundation recs. And even after testing dozens upon dozens, I've generally always steered them towards It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream, $38 (it's just so good!).

Now, though, there's a challenger to the throne — though it comes from the same family: The new It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream Oil-Free Matte, $38.

It has a lot of things in common with its predecessor — it provides weightless coverage that wears well throughout the day and lives up to the whole "Your Skin But Better" moniker since it, well, looks like skin. But it's also oil-free (which makes it a clutch pick for those of us with combination or oily skin) and comes with a gorgeous soft matte texture.

It's precisely that matte texture that has me considering naming it my new favorite. While it's not quite the dramatic, powdery finish that tends to be in vogue right now, it's still matte enough to help keep a shiny forehead at bay, while also adding a filter-like veil to your complexion. Plus, it wears extremely well throughout the day; I've found it can make it through light exercise as well as some (uncharacteristic) L.A. humidity.

Bottom line? If you're a fan of the original (or indeed, even if you're not), this new matte CC cream is well worth a try.
