My biggest problem with New Year's resolutions isn't that you're setting yourself up for failure (even though that's generally the case), it's that executing them can be so expensive. Want to hit the gym? Get ready to shell out hundreds of dollars for a membership. Need a hair transformation? Expect a $200+ salon bill.
I'm in major lust -- lust for Cara Delevingne and Lily Collins and Brooke Shields' eyebrows (circa 1983). Fierce, bold brows that look like they've never been touched with a pair of tweezers have been haunting me everywhere lately. Runways, red carpets and magazine spreads alike all feature full-browed beauties front and center, making every waxed and plucked woman (myself included) wishing we had saved our money and embraced our natural side.
No, not shopping (though we're also engaging in an obscene amount of that recently). We're talking about filling up your Pinterest boards with holiday hair and makeup looks. Even if you're not a heavy pinner, you've probably been trying to figure out festive outfits and the holiday hairstyles that'll complement them perfectly. At least that's what we've been doing.
You know you've got a problem when you briefly consider both bribing a TSA agent and/or missing your flight because you think you packed an illicit, full-size tube of expensive foundation primer in your carry-on. Throw it away? When hell freezes over. (True story.)
It's that time of year again. The time when the color experts at Pantone flip through their thousands of color swatches to determine which luscious hue most deserves the distinguished title of, ehem, Color of the Year. At which point, the rest of us flock to department stores and makeup counters to snatch up clothing and beauty products in its various shades because, well, it's so pretty, and how have we never noticed this particular color before, and, more importantly, how have we lived without it for so long?
Simon Doonan, the Creative Ambassador at Large of Barneys New York, once told me that "every woman should have a signature flourish -- crazy sunglasses, neon hair, something special." (His is a floral shirt -- he's unrecognizable in anything else.)
We're not sure which is tougher: finding your perfect foundation, or your perfect man. Like the afterglow of a great first date, you stroll out of the makeup store with only the highest expectations. Then you spend a day -- maybe a week -- with your perfect match, only to find out that, under broad daylight? Major flaws.
The hairstyles and makeup looks at the American Music Awards are often over the top, extreme, or just plain weird. At the 2013 AMAs, however, stars looked surprisingly pretty and subdued -- even Miley Cyrus played it safe. The beauty looks were so good, in fact, that we're using them as inspiration for holiday parties. Flip through our favorites, and let us know which one you'd try. Sound off in the comments below.
The queen of Halloween has triumphed again. Heidi Klum had jaws hitting the floor as she appeared as an octogenarian at her annual All Hallows Eve event.
I'm only slightly exaggerating when I say there's nothing more heartbreaking than opening your compact to find your favorite eye shadow or blush has busted. Besides spilling all over your purse (more on that later), the cash you spent on your beloved beauty product has now gone to waste and you're without your must-have makeup. Or are you? Before tossing your broken beauty products, try these quick, cheap solutions. From crumbled cosmetics and dried out nail polish to impenetrable aerosol cans, we'll show you (and you'll show everyone else!) that you're not crazy for holding onto that nail polish bottle that hasn't opened for at least three years.
