Hair washing and drying is quite a chore, no? And your life is more or less ruled by when you're going to wash it, right? (Unless, of course, you have a pixie cut.) Regardless, we are all busy ladies and when we wash our hair, we expect our shampoo to clean and protect our hair color ... and for the smell to intoxicate all who are lucky enough to walk by us. We're not saying that you must spend a ton of money on hair care products to get the quality you're looking for, but what we are saying is that there is a huge difference in quality -- even among the shampoos in the drugstore aisles. And the shampoos on this list are not of high quality.
Urban legends abound in the beauty world. These are specific hair care myths and stories that get passed from woman to woman, generation to generation. They run the gamut, but consist of fanatical ideas women believe to be true like "split ends are reversible" and "pluck one grey hair and two will come to its funeral." One of our personal favorite hair care fairytales is some women just wake up with naturally smooth and perfectly straight hair. Bull winkle. Sorry ladies, but we all have to work for the frizz-free sleek stylings we envy on models and celebrities like Jennifer Aniston.
Every time we turn around, celebrities are debuting hairstyles with bangs. After seeing new 'dos on Emma Stone, Jessica Biel, Nicole Richie, and Reese Witherspoon, we have a serious case of fringe envy.
From sleek bob haircuts to long layered hairstyles, we have often applauded this Texan for always changing up her look. But, with recent celebrity hairstyle news confirming that Jessica Simpson and her hairstylist/best friend "forever" Ken Paves have gone their separate ways after 10 years, we can't help, but wonder if it's her hair that will suffer the most. Losing a friend is hard, but losing a friend that also provides you with beautiful hair is way harder. Poor Jess.
Long hair? Don't care. If you're thinking about getting a short haircut (or already have), we've found the best short haircuts and short hairstyles for 2013
Let's face it, we look to the stars (not the celestial objects) to find out what the "it" haircut is, what hairstyles are in vogue and what hair colors we must try. And though we may not have the funds or the resources celebs do, we can (and do) use them as our well of hair inspiration.
If you read women's magazines or beauty sites with any regularity, you've no doubt heard of keratin hair treatments (aka Brazilian Blowouts, Brazilian Keratin Treatments, etc., etc.) -- the hair smoothing procedure that's all the rage these days with celebrities and mortals alike.
Earth to all those stuck in a hair rut: Your hair is there for the experimenting. It's the one part of your identity that gets to have all the fun with little to no permanent consequences. So take advantage! Instead of wearing the same, "safe" style every day, we implore you to try something different, something wacky, something good for your sense of adventure -- a brand new haircut. It's amazing how even a trim can not only change your appearance, but also help you feel more feminine, daring and empowered. (As celebrity hairstylist Italo Gregorio says, "You won't know what's right for you until you've tried as many things as possible.") Besides, the beauty of hair is that if you don't like it, you can always change it. See the 9 haircuts you should try before you die now.
On a recent Saturday morning three moms walked into the Argyle Salon and Spa on Los Angeles' famed Sunset Strip. And, while the celeb-centric spot welcomes hundreds of clients through its mahogany doors six days a week, these three were different -- none had taken the time to "maintain" their naturally good looks or spent money on being primped, in a long, long time.
To determine who's the ugliest of them all, we looked at many studies and opinion polls on said undesirable qualities, from our own surveys like the Eight Cities with the Ugliest Guys (which considers how much sex the locals might not be having) to sources like Travel and Leisure Magazine, the American Fitness Index, U.S. News and World Report, Sperling's Best Places, Gallup, Men's Health and Forbes.com. We also looked up the birthplaces and residences of the ugliest celebrities named by The Good Surgeon Guide, AOL and by us in our personal list of ugly celeb guys. (To those who say, "but that's just, like, your opinion, man," we say, "okay, celebrities are usually somewhat attractive ... but have you SEEN these people?")
The office is a magical place. It's where all sorts of interesting people come together to learn, grow and build better businesses. Oh, who are we kidding? Work is a 9-5 (if we're lucky) grind that pays the bills so that on weekends we can live our lives with the people we love. Most of us work to live and not vice versa, so the thought of racking your brain in order to pick the perfect office hairstyle sounds about as thrilling as reading a memo about new printing practices. That's why we picked nine flawlessly polished, easy-to-do hairstyles that are perfect for your place of work. Hopefully they'll give you one less thing to think about as you're rushing out the door in the am.
Aside from the obvious, superficial allure of shiny, healthy hair, there is a deeper, more anthropological explanation of why it appeals to men. Interestingly enough, one accurate indicator of health is hair. Healthy women have lustrous, shiny healthy hair, whereas the hair of sickly people loses its luster. So there you have it -- men prefer to procreate with healthy women (with shiny, sexy hair to boot).
