Reality check: Labor Day is around the corner and that inevitable back-to-school anxiety will hit soon. Of course you have a million things to do to get ready, so let's ignore the things you don't want to do (like putting your summer stuff in storage and breaking out those scarves) and let's talk about your hair. Your poor, poor hair.
When you start to consider crow's feet, laugh lines, furrowed brows, and those oh-so-fun wrinkles, it's easy to forget that your face isn't the only thing that needs anti-aging attention. When was the last time you picked up a youth renewal product for your hair? It may technically be dead once it leaves your scalp, but hair still shows signs of aging over time. So how do you get your hair to look more youthful?
Our office is in love with curls of all shapes, sizes and swirls right now, but going curly isn't easy for everyone. Some of us were born with board-straight hair ... others have the kind of kinky, tight curls that give new meaning to the word "frizz." But we've learned how to overcome those obstacles to perfect curly hair by finding styles the suit our hair type and length. We challenged our editors and interns to work up with their favorite curly style. From gorgeous ringlets to all-natural kink, we're showing off our best curly looks.
Being curly has advantages. You can hop out of the shower, throw in a great styling product and a hair tie, and be on your way. Bonus: No heat styling or texturizing products required ... ever! The trendy effortless-but-chic look was pretty much made for you. True fact: about 40 percent of women wish they had the curls, waves and texture you've got.
I'm crazy about summer. Nothing beats poolside lounging, watermelon slices, sundresses and endless nights. Unfortunately, my hair does not feel the same way -- even though I love the feeling of sand in my toes, sun on my face (with sunscreen!) and saltwater on my skin, my hair does not appreciate mixing with all of the elements. It stubbornly refuses to be anything besides a big, frizzy, hot mess.
You know the State Farm commercial where the woman says "You can't say anything on the Internet that isn't true"? We laugh, because obviously there's an infinite amount of baloney circulating online. We take everything we read on the interwebs with a boulder of salt.
Here's a collaboration we are 100 percent over the moon about: Rachel Zoe and Robin Moraetes, the co-owners of DreamDry salon, paired with BaubleBar to create a jewelry collection inspired by the salon's most popular hairstyles. We're even more elated that all of the pieces are below $75.
We do a lot of damage in the name of beauty. The blisters and bunions from jamming our feet into high heels. The flaming face after an aggressive chemical peel. But one of the silent victims in our pursuit of gorgeousness is ... our hair. All the dyeing, drying and frying we do frazzles it, and hair coloring -- stripping, bleaching, foiling and heat activating -- is one of the worst culprits.
Some things in life are better flat: pancakes, mirrors, washboard abs. Hair? Not so much (ditto soda, live music, and your chest in 6th grade). Limp, lifeless hair is a downer, and getting that full, bouncy, flowing head of hair you see in slow motion on so many shampoo commercials isn't just a matter of buying the right product.
It's hard not to be enamored with all things French. There's the baguette, a little slice of heaven that make sandwiches seem so elegant. There are the twee, rainbow-colored macarons (which always remind us of the gorgeous excesses of the Original Diva, Marie Antoinette). Even the croissant, which we know is a butter bomb, blows our humble toast out of the water. Don't even get me started on crepes, Champagne, frites and French kissing. What a culture!
The BET Awards season is always an exciting time of year. The sold-out concerts, the star-studded movie premieres, the celebrity comedy acts -- it's more than just an awards show weekend ... it's a full-blown experience.
Scary but true: nearly half of women in the UK admit to putting on makeup while driving, resulting in about 450,000 accidents per year, according to insurer estimates. Most say they only apply at traffic lights or while they're stuck in traffic (yeah, right). What's really worrisome? About 43 percent say they do it even though they know it's dangerous.
For all that's great about summer -- the travel, the sun, the pool parties, the excuse to knock back drinks with umbrellas -- there is one major downside for most of us. When the heat and humidity pick up, our hair either turns into a giant, frizzy orb or a limp, greasy mess. Either way, not pretty.
No blushing bride wants a cookie-cutter wedding. Taking a cue from the expanding DIY movement, luxury retailer Nordstrom announced a partnership with Etsy to offer wedding accessories like veils, cake toppers, and reception décor from Etsy artists and designers. The 80-piece collection delivers a wide range of looks -- from prim and polished to boho-naturel.
Sunday night's 67th Annual Tony Awards featured orphans, acrobats, newsboys, and even Spidermen. But like any big awards show, the highlight for us was the A-lister arrivals on the red carpet. Keep clicking to check out our favorite looks, then chime in: Which one are you going to try to recreate?
When I ask my friends what one hair product they keep a Kung Fu grip on, nine times out of 10 I get dry shampoo. Why? Because what average gal religiously washes her hair every day and gives herself a fresh blowout?
As you might expect, at the 2013 CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) Awards, it is all about the dresses, the shoes, and the accessories. Celebrities, models, and designers go all out to show support to the Guccis, Pradas and even the smaller guys -- Phillip Lim, Thom Browne, Proenza Schouler.
I'm rarely surprised when I find out a celebrity has been arrested. They live in a fantasy world of free-flowing drugs and alcohol, after all. And while it baffles me that many of them don't just hire drivers when they party, it doesn't shock me when they inevitably get pulled over.
