Sorry not sorry: I'm a little over sparkly makeup for New Year's Eve. The flecks of glitter that end up on my cheeks after I apply shimmery eye makeup make me look like I just revisited my tube of body glitter from the Delia's catalog.
I don't think there's anything more glamorous than 1960s beauty. (Nico FTW!) And I absolutely loved Olivia Wilde's '60s-inspired makeup at the Academy Awards. It's a stylized look that sets her apart from the smoky-eye-nude-lip pack, but it's not so retro that it appears costume-y. Plus, if you're into midnight kisses, this peachy lip color is a little more approachable (and touch-up-able) than a bright red statement lip. Just sayin'. --Katie McCarthy

For Olivia Wilde's classic cat eye, use Lorac Front of the Line Pro Liquid Eyeliner in Black, $23, and add several coats of black mascara like Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, $23. For Wilde's exact peach lip color, mix Revlon Colorburst Matte Lip Balm in Complex, $8.99 with Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Pink Cognito, $8.49.
I'm a sucker for vampy lips any time of the year, but my love of a wine-stained, borderline goth pout skyrockets around New Year's Eve -- all the metallics (and bottles of champagne) remind me of that dark Roaring '20s glamour. Lucy Hale's AMAs look fits all my prerequisites for a winning New Year's Eve makeup look -- dramatic and festive without OD-ing on sparkle and shine. --Erica Smith
A quick sweep of champagne shadow, like Eyeko Me and My Shadow in Taupe, $20, some stay-put black liner and volumizing mascara create a subtly-shimmery eye in a snap. All the time and effort goes into the lip. Create a smudge-proof lip by first tracing and filling in your lips with Chanel Lip Liner in 09, Rouge Noir Vamp, $31. Then, blend Mark Lipclick Full Color Lipstick in Whiney and Hot & Spicy, $11 each, (a go-to trick of makeup artists) to get the perfect customized color.
I ooh and ahh over just about any beauty look Miranda Kerr wears. (How could you not? That face!) And this one -- from Paris Fashion Week, naturally -- is one of my favorites. The sleek, pulled back hairstyle is the perfect contrast to her dewy skin, flushed cheeks and fluttery lashes. I'm planning on having a low-key New Year's Eve this year, and this is exactly how I want to look: pretty and pulled together but not overly done. --Dawn Davis
