The 7 New Products You'll Flip For in August

The best from Marc Jacobs' fab new Beauty collection, a revamped cult favorite from Clinique, and more
After months of writing about Marc Jacobs Beauty -- which debuts on August 9 -- I finally got to see the collection in the flesh. I can vouch for it all (pre-order now!), but if you're only going to buy one piece, go for this eye palette. The colors are classic and wearable, and offer plenty of pigment, but what really sold me is the packaging. The palate itself is sleek and flat like a skipping stone, and it comes in a fabric pouch with the Marc Jacobs logo. If you're going to buy designer makeup, isn't that the point?

Yeah, I know. You're freaked out by the price. This is the most expensive blow dryer I've ever used, but it's also the best. It's light and compact, it's shockingly powerful (80-miles-per-hour powerful), the cold shot is actually cold (unlike all the others, which are warm to room temperature), and it dries my hair more than twice as fast as any other dryer. Oh, and I love the mint green color. The reason it costs so much? It's hand-assembled in France, and it has two filters instead of one, making it energy efficient and less likely to burn out when you forget to clean the filter for months at a time. It also comes with a two-year warranty -- twice as long as most dryers.

And then there's the Harry Josh factor. Josh is the boy wonder of the hairstyling world. He's worked with one-name stars like Gisele and Gwyneth, and his red carpet looks are always spot-on. He set out to create a hair dryer that was better than everything else on the market -- and chic enough for his mega-celeb clients. I think he succeeded.

I really hate foundation -- and I really, really detest compact foundation. It's thick and gunky, the color never matches my skin tone, and that sponge seems like a haven for bacteria. Then I tried this compact foundation, and I changed my tune. It's full-coverage but feels silky, and you can dab it on wherever you need it. It blends like a dream, and unlike the tinted moisturizers and BB creams I typically use, there are 20 shades to choose from. And I found one that actually matches my skin -- not just a "it's good enough so I'll wear it" match.

Adam Levine's fiancé, Behati Prinsloo, has a major conflict on her hands. You see, Levine created the un-celebrity fragrance (which he's seriously serious about), but Prinsloo is the face of the new Victoria's Secret scent, Victoria. As if picking a perfume wasn't a tricky enough ordeal without adding relationship politics to the mix. I've smelled both and, sorry Adam, I'm on Team Behati, er, Victoria.

I discovered Klorane Dry Shampoo in 2005, when I spent waaay to much time out 'til the wee hours. I ordered a massive box of the stuff and kept it stashed it under my desk for those mornings when I rolled in feeling like road kill (a clean-looking head of hair can cover a world of sins -- at least from a distance).

I never thought there was room for improvement for my favorite dry shampoo, but the French scientists at Klorane found a way. The new version contains nettle, an ingredient that regulates your scalp's oil production. Instead of just absorbing the oil slick on your unwashed scalp, now you can prevent it.

Every month, we feature our favorite new products in one easy-to-use shopping cheat sheet. The most amazing new mascara, a hairspray that will change your life, the newest face-saving serum -- we zero in on the products we know everyone will be talking about.

This month, we're taking a different route. We're highlighting August launches that everyone is already talking about. Take the Marc Jacobs Beauty collection. We've written about it three, oh, maybe four times, and here it is again -- because it's that big.

August is generally a quiet month for beauty launches -- brands hold out for September to capitalize on the "back to school" shopping blitz. Which is why some major launches are hitting shelves this August -- because they don't want to share the spotlight.
