Mani of the Week: Not-so-Basic Black
Created by: @nail_unistella

Why we love it: Halloween will be here before we know it. As we make the transition from summer brights to the deep, vampy shades of fall, this emo black mani is just the ticket. Nude nails kissed with matte black squiggles help us bridge the gap between the seasons. It's also the perfect way to introduce all the spooky, pumpkin- and ghoul-themed manicures we'll be seeing throughout the next month. Grab your fave nail brush and some matte black polish to recreate this simple-yet-effective DIY mani.

To get the look: Use Jin Soon Nail Polish, $18, in Absolute Black, topped with Matte Maker Top Coat.

Mani of the Week: Whimsy & Wonder

Why we love it: Black and white checkers meet rainbows — and these two prints couldn't create a more fun effect! Bold black and white melds perfectly with cutesy candy-colored creams. The delightful pairing is unexpected, fresh and uber-detailed. This cool mix of patterns knows no season — and can take you from hot to cold weather (and vice versa).

To get the look: Use CND Shellac, $13.99, in Jellied, Shells in the Sand, Taffy, Be Demure, Cream Puff, and Black Pool.

Mani of the Week: Gorgeously Gilded

Why we love it: Truly a transitional color that works for most any season, gold elevates just about everything it touches. We love this warm golden-copper manicure, with the top 2/3 of the nail painted, and a flash of negative space half-moons exposed along the cuticle. Wherever life takes you, this glimmering gold mani adds just the right amount of opulence to your fingertips.

To get the look: Use Essie Nail Polish, $9, in What's Gold Is New.

Mani of the Week: Opposites Attract

Why we love it: This colorful combo — jungle green and bubblegum pink — makes us think of The Hotel Bel Air and ripe, juicy watermelon — two fun, summer staples. As Labor Day weekend (aka the end of summer) approaches, let's take a moment to admire these gorgeous geometric nails. The asymmetrical effect is hip (and just the right amount of unexpected) — that, plus the fun colors, results in a great mani to wave goodbye to summer with.

To get the look: Use Kiko Milano Smart Nail Lacquer, $2, in Lawn Green and Rosy French.

Mani of the Week: Blue-tiful Hues

Why we love it: Make a statement in ultramarine! The vibrant blue is a hot shade to rock as summer sizzles to a close. For an even bigger statement that requires minimal effort, apply a chunky metal flake polish on top. The contrast of the base against the bright, shimmering teal looks like the work of a nail artist (but it's something you easily can DIY in your very own home).

To get the look: Use Orly Nail Polish, $9.50, in It's Britney Beach and What's the Big Teal.
