Many of fall's trendiest hair colors have an ashy base, but cool-toned hair doesn't suit everyone. For brunettes with warm, yellow-toned complexions, caramel sombré is the way to go.

Sombré -- or "soft ombré" -- is the more modern version of ombré hair color, with subtle highlights placed down the length of the hair. "Sombré is the perfect way to embrace fall's warm tones," says Cunningham. "My client Jessica Biel carries this look so well with her rich base color and warm, golden highlights down the length of the hair."

In addition to being on-trend and flattering, sombré is incredibly low-maintenance. Because these highlights aren't rooted, you can easily go three months or more between touch-ups. Ask your stylist for caramel-colored balayage highlights, focusing on the area around your face, says Potempa.

"Rich" and "smoky" are words Chaplin and Nawrot use to describe the deep brown color of the moment, a cool espresso. This ashy shade looks striking against pale and dark complexions alike. (Case in point: Anne Hathaway and Adriana Lima.)

The color you need to ask for? Oddly, it's green. "Make sure your colorist is using a green base," says Nawrot. "This will ensure that you have an even, dark brown with no warmth." You can also cool down your color with a DIY green toning product.
