TBH, we always figured that women who changed their hair color with the seasons just really had their you-know-what together. Due to fear of change, forgetfulness, or sheer laziness, we've gone through more than a few seasons with the same old 'do -- and we bet you have, too. But we're here to tell you that getting a fall-appropriate hair color is easier, faster and so much less drastic (or permanent) than you might think.

Whether you're looking for a DIY treatment or the magic words to communicate your desired look to your stylist, we've got you covered. Here, the season's prettiest hair colors and the celebrity-colorist-approved tips for making sure your strands turn out just right.

If You're a Pale Blonde, Try Icy Platinum
When it comes to platinum hair, silvery shades are (icy) hot right now. "A cooler, icy undertone will take your summer platinum right into winter," says Redken celebrity colorist Tracey Cunningham, who has worked with famous blondes, like Charlize Theron and Naomi Watts.

Sarah Potempa, celebrity hairstylist and creator of the Beachwaver, says giving your blonde an frosty tweak is easy. "Ask [your stylist] for a cool-toned version of your color," she says. "It could be as simple as a toner, but one that has a silver hue."

If you're not full-on platinum yet, there are more "conservative" ways to rock icy blonde, says colorist and Phyto national educator Christyn Nawrot. "Choose a color-enhancing shampoo or conditioning mask that can buffer your already light blonde hair color," she advises. Look for one that has violet or blue pigments to balance out your hair's gold tones.

Icy Platinum Hair: Michelle Williams
Going platinum tends to make hair brittle and dry, which is why it's best suited for those of us with short haircuts, like Michelle Williams' chic pixie.

Icy Platinum Hair: Zosia Mamet
Icy blonde is an attention-getting shade on its own, and it's also the perfect canvas for experimenting with other colors. "Since the hair is already light, a pop of color is fun," says Nicole Leal, master stylist at West Hollywood's Nine Zero One Salon. Make like Zosia Mamet and add just a kiss of color -- in this case, blush pink -- at the roots of your platinum bob.

If You're a Golden Blonde, Try Rose Gold
You don't need to have white-blonde hair to play with pink; rose gold hair is one of the hottest hair colors of the moment (see: Kylie Jenner). The trend has inspired a variety of interpretations, from classic strawberry blonde to cotton-candy pink and everything in between.

The fair-haired can achieve a natural rose gold with an in-salon or DIY toner. "Put a strawberry blonde wash over your golden blonde," says Janelle Chaplin, stylist and global creative director for O&M. "This will look stunning for fall."

You can get the look at home with a pink or red toning conditioner. "Try a sheer conditioning mask to create an all-over blush tone," Nawrot says. "Modify your timing to five minutes for soft color, or 10 to 15 minutes for bold color."
