Facial mists are lifesavers when it comes to the intense summer heat. With just a couple of spritzes, you feel instantly refreshed. Plus, they're great for giving your skin a boost of hydration when you're on the go.

Did you know that the skin care essential also happens to be pretty easy to DIY? Step One: Find your bottle
First things first, you're going to need a bottle to store the stuff in. If you're feeling fancy, glass or aluminum work well and you might want to look for one with an atomizer nozzle for an extra fine mist. Travel-sized spray bottles are also good, especially for on the go (plus, they're super easy to find in your local drugstore aisle). Either way, make sure your container is properly cleaned and sterilized.

Step Two: Brew some tea
Yes, it's tea time! Brewed tea is a great base for any facial mist because it's packed with natural antioxidants that helps soothe redness and protect your skin from free radicals. There are a wide variety of herbal teas available and common picks for DIY facial mists are green, peppermint and chamomile.

Can't decide between the three tea types? Try green tea if you want a mist that can detoxify your skin in a polluted environment. Peppermint tea is perfect to cool you down, while chamomile can help you relax as your day ends.

Once you've picked your tea, steep the tea bag in distilled hot water just as you would if you were making yourself a cuppa, then cool to room temperature (or refrigerate) before adding in other ingredients.

Step Three: Add in your secret ingredients
Here's where the fun starts. Customize your facial mist by adding special ingredients, such as extracts and oils. For a simple hydrating spray, you can add 2-3 drops of vitamin E or jojoba oil to your tea. Have sensitive skin? Add in equal parts rosewater to your tea to help soothe and control redness. You can also mix in skin-loving ingredients like witch hazel, aloe vera juice or cucumbers to create a refreshing facial mist.

These recommended combinations are only a start. Feel free to mix and match these ingredients and more to create an easy, customized facial mist that will work for you.
