With a little practice and a whole lotta eyeliner, these daring electric hues are surprisingly easy to pull off

For a perfectly unperfect smudged line, Lucero first lines the lower lash line by wiggling a creamy pencil (we're fans of Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner in Violet and L'Oréal Paris Colour Riche Eyeliner in Violet) along the roots of the lashes for depth. She then uses the skinny end of Stila Brush #15 to buff it out.

"I do love to wear a double cat eye," says Lucero, who created this look for Alice + Olivia's Spring 2013 collection.

"Liquid formulas create a strong graphic pop art look," says Lucero, which is exactly what we're going for here. Use a black liquid liner, like Stila Stay All Day Liquid Liner, to create a winged eye. Once that dries, simply layer a colored liner on top. Lucero used Stila Stay All Day Liquid Liner in Periwinkle, but this look would work with any bright liner, thanks to the eye-defining black liner near the lash line.

A 'Neutral' Pop of Color
Ease your way into colored liner with a cat eye in a striking blue hue. "Cobalt blue is a great neutral on almost anyone," says Lucero. "It has enough depth to give your eye strong definition and shape, but the pop of color will stand out alone." While January Jones took the look into evening territory by accompanying her cobalt blue liner with glittery gold along the lash line, this look is easy to tweak for daytime.

You can skip the gold and still get a gorgeous, bold look. Use small strokes to apply Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long Lasting Eyeliner in Blue Exquis (the same color she's wearing) to your upper lash line. Flick the liner up at the ends, and if your cat eye freehand skills need a little work, touch up the lines with an angled eyeliner brush. You can also try a liquid liner, like NYX Studio Liquid Liner in Extreme Blue or Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Radium.
