How to Nail the Bare-Faced Beauty Look for Spring

You...with a real-life filter

Ah, spring. We can finally leave the house and feel the sun shining on our faces. We shed the many layers of clothing and this year, we also get to shed layers of makeup. Because the major trend on the runway at New York Fashion Week? Bare-faced beauty. It's natural — the antithesis of layering foundation and primer and concealer. It means skipping the endless blending and highlighting in favor of your natural glow. And this year is even more fun. Besides the dewy skin and glow-ups, there was an added element to keep things interesting: a dot of shadow here, a swipe of underliner there, and you've updated the whole look.

The Skin
The first step to bare-faced beauty is perfect skin, so don't skip the moisturizer. If you don't have perfect skin, don't sweat it. That's what concealer is for. Hit the undereye and any blemishes, but skip the heavy foundation. If you'd like a little blur for the whole face, a primer is a good option. Lastly, spritz some rosewater on for a dewy look and voila! Bare-faced beautiful face.

The Cheek
Blush and bronzer are a bare-faced beauty's best friend. Save the sparkle for your personality and keep the blush matte. You know how you look right after a workout and shower? Or after an afternoon walk on the beach? You're going for that look. So rub some blush on the apples of your cheeks, then add just a little liquid or cream highlighter to the tops of the cheekbones and forehead for that "inner" glow.

The Lip
The key to a bare-faced lip is to keep it in the same color family as your real lip. You basically want it to look like you just bit your lips. Your best bets will be tinted balm or a stain just a shade or two darker than your own. Apply with your finger to get an organic look.

The Eye
This is where it gets interesting. Models walked down the spring runway with an element, usually the eye, that stood out. The looks were all over the place, from natural taupe (work) to glitter (dinner) to bold-colored cat eye (club). How about adding a dot of white shimmer in the inner hollow or middle of your eyelid? Provocative. So, while it's not technically bare-faced beauty, it complements a bare face in the most gorgeous way.
