DON'T: Pile it on
Piling on concealer, especially on specific areas alone, tends to emphasize fine lines and creases and can actually make your makeup look cakey and unnatural. Instead of slathering the stuff on, use a smaller amount and layer it and blend it out until you've got the coverage level you want.

DO: Use color correctors
Remember how we said you should minimize your concealer use for best results? Color correcting concealers are a great way to do that since they use color theory to balance out and counteract facial discoloration. Yellow concealers, for example, help neutralize bruising and redness around the mouth and the nose, while a pink concealer is great for covering up dark circles or spots. Green concealer, on the other hand, is great for hiding blemishes.

If you're looking to really cover up your blemishes and minimize your concealer use, we recommend the NYX Color Correcting Palette. This palette contains six color correcting shades and can be purchased for only $12.

DON'T: Skip your setting powder
Skimping on the setting powder tends to shorten your concealer's staying power — which is why this step is important. Setting powder not only makes sure your concealer stays on the whole day but can also help with minimizing creases.

If you're looking for a setting powder that helps you achieve a soft, mattified look, we recommend the Maybelline New York FaceStudio Master Fix Setting + Perfecting Loose Powder. This powder is lightweight and translucent and can be purchased for only $9.

DO: Prep your skin
A good skin care routine can actually help your concealer and foundation to get that perfect, natural finish. To ensure that your concealer will look extra smooth on your skin, be sure to exfoliate and moisturize before you put on your makeup. Priming your skin can also make a huge difference. It'll ensure seamless application and keep those pesky midday creases at bay.

If you're looking for a skin care kit that cleans and takes care of your skin, we recommend The Body Shop Tea Tree Anti-Blemish Routine Kit, $29.50. This kit contains three cult classics: the Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash, the Tea Tree Skin Clearing Mattifying Toner and the Tea Tree Mattifying Lotion.
